Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology

The academic curriculum is typically completed in 5-6 consecutive semesters of full-time enrollment. Students take courses in developmental and acquired communication and swallowing disorders, and courses in the related sciences (e.g., neuroscience, speech science). The speech-language pathology program at Wayne State has affiliations with over 40 established satellite/cooperative institutions, hospitals, and rehabilitation centers for work with our students. Graduate students enroll in two internships in which they receive experience with children and adults at two official professional settings within the Metropolitan Detroit/Windsor, Canada area. We are particularly proud of this cooperative training opportunity for our graduate students. In addition to the off-campus facilities, the Department maintains an active clinic on campus, housed in Rackham Memorial Building with our department offices and resource center. We feel that the clinical experiences which a Master's student obtains while attending Wayne State University provide the fundamentals for being an effective clinician.
