Advances in quantitative methodology have allowed us to broaden and refine the types of questions we can address. These developments provide us with new and powerful ways to connect our theoretical models to empirical evidence. Members of our faculty use a broad range of data collection and data analysis techniques. Because our department features considerable strength in quantitative methods, we are able to offer several different options for students interested in building various levels of expertise. A hallmark of graduate education in Sociology at Penn State is strong training in quantitative research methods. This training emphasis is promoted by the large number of department faculty with specialized training in quantitative methods, by the availability of twelve regularly offered quantitative methods graduate courses, and by providing the opportunity to earn a Certificate in Quantitative Methods.

Entry requirements for 賓州大學大學公園校區
Three letters of recommendation are required for admission. Your references will be contacted electronically to complete a recommendation for you.
A personal statement and at least one writing sample should be uploaded when completing the online application.
Transcripts: Applicants are required to electronically upload copies of transcripts (or equivalent documents for institutions outside the U.S., e.g., degree/study certificates, diplomas, etc.) from all post-secondary institutions attended, in the language of instruction (and copies of an official English translation if English is not the language of instruction).
Official GRE and TOEFL (International Applicants Only) scores should be sent electronically from ETS to the Graduate School.Internet-based test (iBT) - a total score of 80 with a 19 on the speaking section for the internet-based test (iBT). Applicants with iBT speaking scores between 15 and 18 may be considered for provisional admission, with Graduate School approval, which requires completion of specified remedial English courses ESL 114G (American Oral English for Academic Purposes) and/or ESL 116G (ESL/Composition for Academic Disciplines) and attainment of a grade of B or higher within the first semester of enrollment. Paper-based test- 550, IELTS – The minimum acceptable composite score for the IELTS Academic Test is 6.5.
