The profession of social work is grounded in a commitment to serving vulnerable and oppressed populations and advocating for public policies that promote social justice.
The Master of Social Work (MSW) program at CSUB prepares students for advanced generalist social work practice. Graduates are prepared to work with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities in fields such as mental health, physical health, child and family services, gerontology, corrections, juvenile justice, youth services, and substance abuse treatment.
CSUB uses advanced-generalist practice as the model for the curriculum. This model prepares graduates to perform a variety of roles across micro, mezzo, and macro levels of practice. Within the advanced-generalist framework of the curriculum, students may choose an emphasis in child and family services, mental health, or gerontology/ health social work in a full-time, part-time, or advanced standing plan of study. Entry requirements for California State University Bakersfield
Possession of a Bachelor?s degree that provides a liberal arts foundation significantly equivalent to the general education requirements listed in the CSUB catalog and that is from a recognized college or university.
A GPA of at least 2.5 (on a four point scale) in the last 60/90 units.
A completed University application via Cal State Apply
A completed Department of Social Work application
Graduate Record Exam (GRE) General Test Scores
Official sealed copies of transcripts from all colleges attended
Case Vignette response completed according to the guidelines in the department application
Three letters of reference
Cal State Apply Application fee ($70)
Computer literacy
IELTS:7.0, TOEFL IBT: 80, TOEFL PBT: 500
English language requirements
