The Department is one of the leading Canadian research departments in Mathematics and Statistics. It is an excellent place to pursue your graduate studies in most areas of Pure and Applied Mathematics and Statistics. The Department includes world leading experts in modern algebra, algebraic groups, algebraic geometry, functional analysis, dynamical systems, fluid dynamics, mathematical biology, mathematical physics, statistics, mathematical finance, and scientific computation. To successfully complete a PhD program, the student must satisfy the minimum course requirements, pass the Entrance Year, the Candidacy Exam, and write a PhD thesis (a significant and original research contribution to the general area of the program), which then has to be successfully defended in a final oral examination.

Entry requirements for 阿爾伯塔大學
To be admitted to the PhD program a student typically must hold an MSc degree in Mathematical or Statistical Sciences from the University of the Alberta (or an equivalent degree from a recognized institution). For some programs also holders of an MSc in other areas like e.g. Computing Science or Physics will be considered.Hold an MSc degree in Mathematics or Statistics (depending on the choice of PhD program), or a closely related area.TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) Score Minimum score of 100 (internet based), with a score of at least 22 in each individual skills area.IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Score Minimum score of 7.0 overall with a minimum of 6.0 on each band for admission.
