Study Biological and life sciences abroad

Biological and life sciences involves the study of a multitude of living organisms – from microscopic organisms to large mammals that inhabit the earth. With pandemics and new diseases on the rise, the importance of biological sciences has increased.

Biological and life sciences encompass the study of all living organisms on planet earth. The term ‘biological sciences’ includes zoology, botany, microbiology, biochemistry, biophysics, anatomy, genetics, bioengineering, and epidemiology. Life scientists bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and clinical practice. The basis of medical sciences is formed by the research undertaken by these scientists.
As a biological scientist, you will continuously be working for the community and coming up with solutions to enhance the quality of life. The field is ever-growing and constantly changing, with books being only one part of the deal. Observing, researching, and experimenting in the lab are the main tasks that you would be performing if you want to leave a mark.
The average cost for a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences in the U.S. is $25,000 annually. For a master's degree, the average cost is around $20,000 annually.

To start with, you can opt for biology as a course in your school years to build a solid foundation. Even if you haven’t studied biology early on, you can always enroll in short courses and foundation programs to get a hang of it. An undergrad degree in biological and life sciences can help you find a decent job but it won’t help you undertake prominent research. The latest requirement is to have at least an ongoing postgraduate degree in the field to benefit the community.
Biology is interlinked to several different fields. The burger you had a few days ago might be processed from a genetically engineered chicken or the shirt that you’re wearing may be produced from a modified silkworm in some lab.

Recent global events have only underscored the need for biological researchers more than ever. Their demand is on the rise. In the U.S. for example, the average annual wage for a career in biological sciences is between $90,000-$150,000 which is significantly higher than the national average ($45,000). If it weren’t for the medical technicians and bioengineers with a biological and life science research degree, we would never have had the COVID-19 vaccine. Even the concept of ‘herd immunity’ is born from years of extensive research undertaken by epidemiologists. No matter where you go and what you do, bioscience will find its way to you.

Zoologists

Love animals? You can work with them and for them by majoring in zoology. A zoologist is needed in conservation parks and recreational zoos. Your efforts might even help endangered species from extinction. Average incomes of zoologists range between $50-70,000 per annum.

Epidemiologist

As an epidemiologist, you will be working closely with health care professionals, the government, and the community. With your knowledge and skill, you will be able to identify the prevalence and incidences of various morbidities. Your research will form the basis for future health policies. Epidemiologists make on average $70,000 per year.

Microbiologist

Microbiologists assist in disease prevention and collaborate with pharmacologists to develop drugs against pathogens. Average salaries range between $70-80,000.

Lab technicians

Labs technicians are indispensable aides to doctors and scientists.. As lab technician, you will be running various tests on samples such as blood and tissue culture. Average salaries of lab technicians range between $50-60,000.

Biological journalist

If you enjoy media spotlight, biological journalism is also an emerging offshoot of the field. You can use the media and broadcast your research to the public on various pertinent channels.
