Practical learning

Practical learning

Internships

EIT bachelor's and master's degrees require students to have 240 hours of paid or unpaid professional work-integrated learning. This includes internships (unpaid or paid), networking activities, site visits, and helping with industry projects.

To aid on-campus students with no industry experience through the process of application for work- integrated learning, EIT offers assistance with their resume development, interview skills, presentation skills, and helping them get in touch with its industry partners.

Students have the opportunity to engage with employees and are exposed to work culture when taking up internships. They learn about official communication, more about engineering disciplines, gain practical insights and aptitude as they work on projects from planning to completion.

Hands-on workshops

EIT's hands-on workshops provide students with knowledge and experience using discipline-related materials and equipment. Students become competent through these workshops in tools, measurements, experimentation, and more.

Labs

EIT equips online and on-campus students with required skills that helps them put theory into practice. Its remote and virtual laboratories offer students access to specialised education and industrial engineering software and hardware, to be used in practical assessments throughout the duration of their course.

Students can make use of:

  • Virtual labs: These host software for a number of engineering applications, including science education, modelling and analysis, power network design, design and drafting, programming, construct models, industrial process control, project management, and virtual plant field operations.
  • Remote labs: These labs offer an equivalent of the traditional engineering lab – through the use of physical equipment and sensors. These practicals are controllable, interactive, variable, and viewable in real-time through webcams.

Teaching quality

EIT's lecturers are subject experts and highly experienced engineers with applied knowledge. They pass on their expertise to students to help them tackle challenges in the workplace. EIT takes care to source the best lecturers from around the world. The lecturers are also available to guide students through classroom contact hours, phone, skype, or email for assistance.

EIT's small class sizes allow students to build rapport with their classmates as well as their lecturers, and seek clarity by asking questions when needed.

Course coordinators at EIT offer students academic guidance and support throughout their study journey. Students can also take advantage of support with mathematics and the English language in order to improve their speaking and writing skills.

Student support

Learning Support Officers (LSOs) offer guidance to EIT students during their study. Students taking up higher education have one committed LSO for every unit of study for higher education programs.

Students who opt for a vocational graduate certificate, professional certificate, diploma, or advanced diploma, can avail assistance from one dedicated person throughout their period at EIT.

EIT's Student Services Team offers on-campus students a supportive learning environment and encourages them to share their personal support needs before the start of their program or any time during. EIT also provides students with referrals to external support services, where required.

EIT conducts an orientation every semester for its new students to give them the opportunity to settle into student life, meet other students, explore the campus, and discover the range of student services on offer.

Students will be given a pre-departure handbook covering important details they need to know for their student life in Australia. Students can also receive free advice on accommodation options suited to them.
