Overview
Founded in 1887, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) is a historically black land-grant university located in Tallahassee, Florida.
It is the third largest historically black college and university (HBCU) in the United States, and today offers a comprehensive fine program of courses, at undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and professional levels. FAMU welcomes a diversity of students who make up a learning community of approximately 10,000 students from across the United States and abroad.
FAMU offers more than 50 undergraduate majors, spanning a wide range of subject areas. The university provides a superb learning experience, empowering students to achieve far beyond their expectations through a culture of teaching excellence, innovative research and scholarship, academic collaboration, inclusive support, and public service.
The university has a five-year Strategic Plan, outlining the next steps in its journey of development. From 2022-2027, FAMU will continue to invest wisely in its campus and resources, and foster the university's distinctive identity while focusing on the following five key priorities:

In a recent assessment, FAMU topped the list of highest-ranked public HBCU in the U.S. according to News & World's Report.
In addition to its academic prowess, the university provides an excellent student experience, with many activities and events organised throughout the year, and a lively social scene. FAMU is a keen sporting institution, and its teams are known as the Rattlers, and compete in the top division of the NCAA.
