Founded in 1964, the Peralta Community College District (PCCD) is a collaborative community of colleges comprised of Berkeley City College, College of Alameda, and Laney and Merritt colleges in Oakland, Calif. The Peralta Colleges provide a dynamic multicultural learning environment offering accessible, high-quality educational programs and services, including two-year degrees, certificates and university transfer programs, to more than 30,000 students. PCCD is home to award-winning Peralta TV (Comcast ch. 27/28, AT&T ch. 99) and public radio KGPC-LP 96.9 FM.
Berkeley City College, one of California?s 113 community colleges, is located at 2050 Center St. between Shattuck Ave. & Milvia Sts. in downtown Berkeley, in one of the world?s great education centers. As it meets the demands of urban education in the 21st century, Berkeley City College continues to offer programs and classes which transfer to U.C. Berkeley, the California State Universities and to private colleges. The college also offers model occupational training programs in American Sign Language, biotechnology, multimedia arts, the sciences, global education, business and information technology.
College of Alameda is a small, friendly community college noted for the excellence of its academic, vocational and student support programs. Situated on a beautiful park-like campus on the island city of Alameda, the College offers the quiet of a suburban setting, just minutes from downtown Oakland.
Laney College is the largest of the four Peralta Community College District campuses, serving approximately 12,000 students annually. As the flagship college for the Peralta District, Laney College stretches across sixty acres in downtown Oakland, California, one of the most ethnically and economically diverse cities in America. Laney is also one of the oldest community colleges in the nation, celebrating 65 years in 2018. Laney College offers associate degrees in more than 20 liberal arts and science fields, a significant number of graduates go on to attend 4-year colleges and universities, including the University of California and California State University systems.
Merritt College opened its doors nearly 60 years ago and today remains the heart of a thriving, diverse community where students of all ages and backgrounds can get a quality education at a very affordable price. As a community college, Merritt provides college-level education at a fraction of the cost of four-year or Private University. Merritt offers a wide array of certificates, associate degrees, and transfer courses that you can choose from to design a career. Some of the most sought-after programs are nursing, radiology, nutrition, microscopy, administration of justice, child development, paralegal studies, and much more.
