For 75 years, students have chosen Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) due to its strong academics, career-focused experiential learning and student-first ethos.

TMU is a leading comprehensive innovation university integrated into Canada's largest and most diverse city. Culturally diverse and inclusive, the university is home to 40,000 students from 140+ different countries and 240,000+ alumni worldwide.

What TMU students learn in the classroom is complemented and enhanced by real-world knowledge through co-ops and internships, while being amplified through specialized minors. TMU offers more than 60 career-focused undergraduate programs and 95 percent of these programs are designed with components that facilitate experiential or hands-on learning. TMU has also pioneered ‘Zone Learning' – a new model of experiential learning that allows students to apply the knowledge and skills gained during their degree to real-world causes, startups, companies, ventures and projects.

What's New

New Student Wellbeing Centre

Plans are underway to build a new Student Wellbeing Centre at Toronto Metropolitan University after TMU students voted yes in a 2022 referendum on a health and wellbeing fee to improve the quality, timeliness and level of wellbeing services students receive.

TMU will bring many health and wellness initiatives to this central hub located at the heart of campus. A new eight-storey tower will house all health and wellbeing services under one roof. Find out why TMU students are excited about the new Student Wellbeing Centre.

Launching a New School of Medicine

Toronto Metropolitan University is proud to build on its foundation of deep and broad community and industry partnerships with the launch of a new School of Medicine in Brampton, Ontario.

TMU will offer a new approach to medical education in Ontario - one that draws on the university's commitment to community, diversity and inclusion, and innovation to address the changing needs for health care delivery and practice.

TMU looks forward to welcoming the first cohort of future medical doctors to its School of Medicine in September 2025.

The Toronto Metropolitan University English Language Institute (ELI) is a leader in high-quality English language programming and provides an ideal starting point for students to achieve academic and personal success. The ELI offers English upskilling through pathway programs that help students meet the language requirements for TMU's undergraduate programs as well as customized language training programs for professional development and cultural immersion language programs for short-term visiting students.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

Toronto Metropolitan University accepts international undergraduate applications for September and January admission. Admission requirements depend on various factors including program-specific requirements. Review the complete list of TMU admission requirements by country or system of education on the university website.

All secondary and post-secondary studies are considered by the university's admissions team when it comes to making a formal offer of acceptance. Certain programs may also have non-academic requirements (e.g., portfolio of work, interview, audition).

Applications are submitted online, and prospective applicants are encouraged to familiarise themselves with key dates and deadlines.

Some applicants may be required to present proof of English language proficiency. They can consult TMU's English language requirements for more information, including acceptable tests and scores.

Scholarships & funding

Scholarships & funding

TMU is committed to creating opportunities for students from many backgrounds and provides an extensive range of scholarships and financial aid programs to support its learning community.

International students may qualify for entrance scholarships and distinguished awards, such as the President's Entrance Scholarship (up to CAD 40,000) or the International Student Merit Scholarships (CAD 5,000).

President's Entrance Scholarships

The President's Entrance Scholarship is awarded to secondary school graduates who demonstrate academic accomplishment, leadership qualities, original thought and creative ability. A minimum 90 per cent final admission average is required for consideration.

International Student Merit Scholarships

The International Student Merit Scholarships are awarded to international students who are entering their first year of a full-time, four-year undergraduate degree program at TMU in the Fall or Winter term and demonstrate academic excellence, commitment to volunteer work and extracurricular activities, and leadership skills. A minimum 85%/A or equivalent final admission average is required for consideration.

Toronto Metropolitan University has a vibrant urban campus located in the heart of downtown Toronto. The campus is a self-contained learning environment, featuring everything that students need to succeed academically while providing enriching extra-curricular opportunities. TMU is equipped with modern teaching facilities, state-of-the-art laboratories, lecture halls, classrooms, and the latest educational technologies, all aimed at enhancing the quality of education provided to students.

The iconic Student Learning Centre (SLC) is the symbolic ''front door'' of the TMU campus. From innovative learning to progressive operating models, the SLC is a physical manifestation of the university's spirit, engaging students and promoting their success through exceptional experiences.

TMU's premier athletic facility is the Mattamy Athletic Centre (MAC). The MAC features a full-sized ice rink, a court for basketball and volleyball, studios, and a high-performance gym. TMU's varsity athletics teams (the TMU Bold) train and play in the MAC, and all students can use and enjoy its amenities.

TMU's three student residences supply over 1,100 beds on campus in the Daphne Cockwell Complex, the International Living & Learning Centre, and Pitman Hall.

The TMU Libraries offer a vast collection of books as well as more than 500,000 electronic resources including e-books, serial titles, and databases. Students can access various software and hardware including video and photo editing software, cameras, 3D printers, soldering tools, sewing machines, and more. Students can also use a variety of study spaces and get research support from Library staff.
