Overview

Established in 1964, Shoreline Community College is home to around 10,000 students with almost 1,000 international students from more than 65 countries. The institution is a public community college near Seattle, Washington in the U.S.

With over 90 academic and professional/technical programs to choose from, international students prepare for successful careers at Shoreline. Students complete the first two years of an undergraduate degree at Shoreline, and then transfer to a top U.S. university for two more years to complete their degree.

While it is encouraged, international students are not required to take the TOEFL or any other English proficiency test to be accepted at Shoreline. If students choose not to take an exam in advance or do not place at an academic level, there is an English language placement test they will take during International Student Orientation to determine their English level.

Shoreline is located on a peaceful, 83-acre campus, just two kilometres north of the city of Seattle. In a beautiful region known as the Pacific Northwest, Seattle is a vibrant city that also has stunning natural scenery. There are huge variety of locations and activities for students to enjoy, including national parks and beaches.

Seattle is also home to many Fortune 500 companies, including Microsoft, Amazon, and Starbucks. Shoreline alumni often find opportunities for their post-graduation work experience - known as Optional Practical Training (OPT) - at these companies.

Shoreline is among the top 20 U.S. community colleges out of 1,462 nationwide for the number of international students it hosts (IIE, 2021). The college is recognized as one of the top three community colleges in the state of Washington (WalletHub, 2021). Shoreline has received a prestigious Paul Simon spotlight award for its leadership in campus internationalization. Students from Shoreline also consistently receive the competitive Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship to study abroad.

The college is offering both hybrid on-campus options with enhanced COVID-19 safety protocols for students who want to study in the U.S. and a number of key services online for students who will study from overseas. The health and well-being of the campus community is its highest priority. All students and staff need to complete vaccination attestation to enter campus.

In that way, students can get started on their academic plans regardless of their specific situation and do not need to defer their studies.

The entry requirements at the institution now include Duolingo as evidence of English language proficiency and for the issuing of a form I-20. Foundation and pre-sessional English courses are also available online at the university. In addition, the college continues to offer scholarships and emergency grant to eligible students.
