The College, Swansea University offers a range of academic programmes including Foundation, First Year and Pre-Master's programmes leading to enrolment on a degree at Swansea University.

The College is a Joint Venture made up of Swansea University and Navitas, and is an ideal option for international students who wish to pursue higher education at Swansea University but might not have the grades to join directly. Progression to a Swansea University degree is guaranteed upon successful completion of their course at The College.

Swansea University is an internationally renowned study destination, ranked within the top 25 universities in the UK (Guardian University Guide 2024). Students at The College benefit from studying on the same campus, and using all the same facilities and support services as Swansea University students from day one, while being taught by an expert team of academics and tutors. They receive high quality teaching that is driven by world-class research, in what is truly one of the most beautiful campus locations in the UK.

The College is located on the stunning seafront campus of Swansea University overlooking Swansea Bay and the Gower Peninsula - the first place to be designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. What's new

Incoming international students at The College can take advantage of stylish accommodation at the Bay Campus. For students commencing their studies in 2024, discounted on-campus accommodation at the Rod Jones Hall of Residences is now available.

Seaside living during college studies is a fantastic experience and gives a whole new dimension to the experience of living and working in Swansea. Being able to walk from student accommodation to the beach in just a couple of minutes brings plenty of options for students to make it a memorable time. Whether students want to hike around the magnificent coastal cliff paths, grab a board and surf the local waves, or simply relax on the beach with a picnic and some friends, there really is a lot to discover.

Students can also take advantage of a free Swansea University English Language Test (SWELT) if they are an offer holder for The College, Swansea University. Early booking is recommended as spaces fill up shortly after new dates are released.

Teaching quality

Teaching quality

The College's teaching facilities are conveniently located on the Swansea University Bay Campus, which means that from the very first day, college students are part of the university community.

Classes are taught with small group sizes, giving a more personalised approach to teaching, with plenty of opportunities for individual feedback. Teaching staff work hard to foster an inclusive educational philosophy where students support each other, and collaborate to reach their highest potentials.

The College's academic building houses 18 dedicated teaching rooms, furnished with the latest teaching technologies, as well as computer labs and a range of individual and group study spaces.

Student life and education services teams are both based in this building, meaning students always have support nearby when they need it most. These teams help students settle into life in Swansea as well as providing academic guidance for their pathway course, and also during their degree, when they progress to Swansea University.

A flexible entry system includes four annual intake points in September, November, January and May, ensuring international students can choose to start their studies at the time which is best suited to them.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

Entry requirements to The College's pathway programmes vary, based on level of study, and also on a course-by-course basis.

Generally, academic requirements are as follows:

Foundation - GCSE level or equivalent

First Year - A-level or equivalent

Pre-Master's - Successful completion of a 3 year diploma equivalent to a UK HND for all subjects, except Engineering. Successful completion of a recognised UK Equivalent bachelor's degree for engineering pre-master's.

Full details of academic entry requirements can be found on The College's website, in a drop down menu listed by county.

Since courses at The College are delivered in English, all students will be required to demonstrate a minimum level of English language proficiency in order to enrol on their chosen course.

Most commonly, this involves completing an accepted English language qualification. The most widely available qualification is the IELTS test, and the minimum scores for a standard two semester programme at each level of study offered by The College can be viewed below:

Foundation (Joint CAS) - IELTS 5.5 (minimum 5.5)

Foundation (Single CAS, 2 Semester) - UKVI IELTS 5.5 (writing 5.5 and no skill below 5.0)

Foundation (Single CAS, 3 Semester) - UKVI IELTS 5.0 (writing 5.0 and no skill below 4.5)

First Year (Joint CAS) - IELTS 5.5 (minimum 5.5)

First Year (Single CAS, 3 Semester) - UKVI IELTS 5.5 (writing 5.5 and no skill below 5.0)

Pre-Masters (Joint CAS) - IELTS 5.5 (minimum 5.5)

Pre-Masters (Single CAS, 2 Semester) - UKVI IELTS 5.0 (minimum 4.5)

Pre-Masters (Single CAS, 3 Semester) - UKVI IELTS 4.5 (minimum 4.0)

*Students studying at a lower NQF Level programme will be issued with a Single CAS and will require a new CAS upon progression to their next level of study (In this case only UKVI IELTS will be accepted). All other students will be issued with a Joint CAS where possible.

Accommodation

Students are invited to make the Bay Campus their new home. The College offers safe, secure and convenient accommodation during their studies, including a high quality en-suite study bedroom, which is just a short walk to The College academic building.

Incoming students are currently offered the following accommodation discount for the on-campus Rod Jones Hall of Residence.

Weekly cost of Standard Room: reduced from GBP 177 to GBP 140 per week (40 week tenancy).

Weekly cost of Premium Room: reduced from GBP 183 to GBP 155 per week (40 week tenancy).

Students Union

Those who study with The College become automatic members of Swansea University's Students' Union.

The Students' Union (SU) works towards enhancing the overall university experience for all students. It operates across both Bay and Singleton campuses, committed to ensuring that every student's voice is heard and that they actively participate in all facets of university life.

Students have the opportunity to engage in various activities such as joining societies or sports clubs, contributing to Swansea University's student-staff team, attending major student events throughout the academic year, and more. The SU provides a range of amenities, including four on-campus shops and three bars, and organise an extensive calendar of over 280 events annually.

Library

Both of Swansea University's campuses have a library that is free to use for students.

International@Campus Life

The University's dedicated team for international students is called International@Campus Life. This team helps students and their families with a range of non-academic or non-finance related problems. The team is fully trained as immigration specialists and also arranges a variety of social events, trips and activities throughout the year.

The Swansea Employability Academy (SEA) ensures that academic progression and career development are both invested in, while at the University, and the SEA's team of trained advisors can help students seek industry placements and work experience to build their professional profile before graduation. They also organise careers fairs, interview workshops, and much more.

In the UK, Swansea University is a top 25 institution, and in the most recent QS World Rankings, the University was ranked within the top 200 for Employer Reputation.

The latest data (HESA 2022) shows that 93 percent of Swansea graduates were in employment, or further study within 15 months of the completion of their studies, and in the last WhatUni Student Choice Awards (2023) the university was voted 6th in the UK for career prospects.
