What's new

2024 QS World University Rankings

UNSW Sydney rocketed into the global top 20 in the 2024 QS World University Rankings. It is the #1 Australian university for Employment Outcomes and International Research Network, and also leads the way in sustainability (2nd in Australia).

Top100 Future Leaders Competition

For four years in a row, the Australian Financial Review's Top100 Future Leaders Awards, which identifies the best talent produced in Australian universities, has recognised UNSW Sydney as the ‘Most Employable University'. 33 students from the university stood out as most employable, the highest of any university.

Co-op scholarship

Jessica Lawson, a Bachelor of Information Systems (Hons) student from the university won the IT Top100 Future Leader Award. As a part of the UNSW Sydney Business School's Co-op Scholarship program, she can undertake three six-month internships with sponsors over her degree. Her first internship was with the global pharmaceutical company Merck Sharp & Dohme. She is currently in an internship with Westpac ISG.

''The Co-op scholarship program has provided me with wonderful opportunities. I feel really fortunate to have been given the chance to have internships and look forward to learning as much as I can in the remaining two years of my degrees,'' Jessica said.

Scholarships & funding

UNSW rewards ambitious, high-achieving international students with a range of scholarships. These are offered based on various factors such as academia, extracurricular activities, leadership skills, and more. Through these scholarships, students gain not just financial aid, but also recognition from future employers.

International Scientia Coursework Scholarship

UNSW Sydney awards this scholarship to students who are passionate about becoming leaders, enjoy excellent academic merit, excel in extracurricular activities, and share how the university is the right choice for their study.

Recipients of the award receive:

  • a full scholarship covering their tuition fees, or
  • AUD 20,000 per year for the minimum duration of their program

International Student Award

Students can 15 percent toward tuition fees for every year of their program. Available for international students from eligible countries starting at UNSW in 2024.

Australia's Global University Award

Students who are passionate about accomplishing their goals through study at the university, with strong academic merit will receive this award.

Recipients will be given:

  • A one-off AUD 10,000 award that is to be made directly towards tuition fees in the second term of the first year of study.

UNSW Global Academic Award

This is awarded to commencing UNSW students who complete the UNSW Global Foundation Studies and also have strong academic merit.

Recipients of the award will receive:

Thirty-three UNSW students were named as most employable students in the 2023 Award, the highest of any university. UNSW Sydney graduates enjoy a 5-star rating for full-time employment and its graduates have the highest median salaries among Go8 universities three years after graduation. The university also has the highest number of students in the Australian Financial Review's Top100 Future Leaders list.

Work integrated learning

UNSW Sydney embeds work integrated learning in its programs, which enables students to work directly with industry to gain real-world experience, create valuable connections and prepare for the world of work. Post-study working in Australia

On graduation, international students are eligible to apply for the Post Study Work stream of the Temporary Graduate Visa. The visa allows graduates to live and work in Australia. Over 160 UNSW programs are eligible for an additional two-year extension of the Post Study Work visa.

Student safety

Student safety

UNSW Sydney's Security Services offer students a comprehensive 24/7 security on campus and security monitoring services.

These services provide:

  • Student protection
  • Property protection
  • Detection and prevention of crime
  • A 24-hour control room monitoring CCTV, building access, and alarm systems

UNSW Sydney security officers are fully licensed with a number of special powers under the Acts of Parliament. If needed, they will liaise with law enforcement agencies.

Security patrols

UNSW Sydney also has a 24-hour patrol and an emergency response service. Some of their services include:

The app

Entry requirements

Undergraduate study

For undergraduate study, there is more than one way to meet the academic entry requirements. These include high school studies, foundation studies, recognised prior study and a university transfer. UNSW Sydney accepts a number of international qualifications. Undergraduate applicants can check entry requirements for common international high school certificates from the Direct entry table.

Postgraduate study

For postgraduate study, students generally are required to have completed undergraduate studies at a higher education institution. Find more information on undergraduate and postgraduate entry requirements here or on the degree pages of the degree finder.

English language requirements

If a student's qualifications were not undertaken and assessed in English, the student must provide evidence of English language ability that meets the minimum requirements for admission. The degree pages of UNSW Sydney include details for the program's English language requirements. For evidence accepted by UNSW, students should refer to the English Language Requirements page.

Other qualifications

There are different ways to satisfy UNSW's English language requirements. In addition to university English preparation courses and English tests, the university also accepts several academic qualifications for its English language requirements. All qualifications should have been taken by students no more than two years from their year of commencement of study, (excluding students from Sweden, Denmark, or Norway, who can produce results four years prior to commencement year of study at UNSW Sydney).
