Advanced Engineering Building

The University of Brighton's GBP 14 million Advanced Engineering Building opened recently and is a great addition to the university facilities. The building houses the Advanced Engineering Centre which supports both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and innovative research. It has state-of-the-art facilities for mechanical, automotive and aerospace engineering and provides an inspiring environment for the next generation of engineering students and researchers.

Brighton among the best fashion schools in the world

The University of Brighton has been ranked 13^th by the CEOWORLD magazine, 6^th Best Fashion School in the UK (top 20 globally) and 8^th for art and design (top 40 globally) by the QS rankings 2019. The fashion courses at the university are recognised as amongst the best in the world, and renowned for its teaching, practice and research in the arts.

The Big Build

The university is continuously investing in facilities that enhance students' experiences and has planned improvements to existing facilities in Brighton and Eastbourne, as well as a transformation of the largest campus at Moulsecoomb. The campus development at Moulsecoomb will provide students with access to new halls of residence, teaching and learning spaces and social and fitness facilities. The project that aims to transform the University of Brighton's Moulsecoomb campus has made the shortlist for the prestigious Times Higher Education Leadership & Management Awards (THELMAs).

Outstanding Initial Teacher Education

Preparing for university

The University of Brighton Language Institute offers language programmes and the International College offers pathway courses.

The university encourages and supports students with potential, and operates a flexible admissions policy based on merit. Exam grades are considered alongside other factors such as the student's vocational achievements, work experience, background and personal circumstances.

Undergraduate

Students applying for undergraduate courses should meet specific entry requirements detailed on the course pages.

Postgraduate

Masters-level degree courses typically require a first degree. Students who don't have this qualification but can demonstrate an equivalent level of experience, will be considered on the basis of their potential to benefit from, and contribute to, a course. Students should also meet subject specific entry requirements detailed on the course pages.

English language requirements

Undergraduate students need to provide evidence of having met the language requirements through a Secure English Language Test (SELT) with an approved test provider.

Most postgraduate courses require an overall IELTS score of at least 6.5 with no element less than 5.5, but a number of courses do have higher IELTS requirements than this. Students can find out course specific entry requirements by visiting the course finder page.

Academic preparation courses

In conjunction with partners, Kaplan International Pathways, the university offers a number of undergraduate and postgraduate pathway courses. A pathway course offers complete preparation for university-level study, and is taken at the University of Brighton International College. Upon successful completion of the course at the required level, students planning to progress are guaranteed a place on their chosen degree.

English language preparation courses

The University of Brighton's Brighton Student Skills Hub provides a comprehensive range of English for Academic Purposes and pre-sessional language programmes for students who wish to attain the English language level qualification to start their degree.

The University of Brighton has invested heavily into building fully modernised teaching facilities, with over GBP 100 million spent over the last decade. New spaces are furnished with industry standard equipment and cutting-edge technologies, enabling students to learn in environments which closely resemble their future professional workplaces. The University of Brighton offers a number of different scholarships for international students, for undergraduate, postgraduate and research study.

Some of the scholarships include:

International scholarships

The university offers scholarships worth up to GBP 2,500 each, to new full-time international students on undergraduate or postgraduate taught degree courses. The criteria are primarily based on academic merit.

International research scholarships

A maximum of two international research scholarships worth the full tuition fee for each year of a research degree (for up to a maximum of three years) are available to outstanding international research students across all areas of study.

University of Brighton sports scholarships

These scholarships are for talented sports performers who are able to demonstrate potential in a national or regional level sports competition.

Merit scholarships

Each year, the university awards scholarships worth approximately GBP 1,000 each, to eligible undergraduate students on the basis of their academic performance in end-of-year assessments.

International student hardship fund

The international student hardship fund, not exceeding GBP 500 per student, is a University fund open to all current, full fee paying international students who are experiencing financial problems due to unexpected circumstances.

Alumni Postgraduate scholarship

The university offers scholarships to students who already hold a University of Brighton academic award and who wish to study at the postgraduate level at the university.
