Overview
The University of Delaware (UD) traces its foundation to 1743, making it one of the oldest higher education institutions in the U.S. This long tradition of distinguished scholarship is reflected to this day in the university's research and creative activities. With a commitment to increasing and disseminating scientific, humanistic, artistic and social knowledge for the benefit of the larger society, UD has been consistently recognized as one of the top 50 public universities in America and within the top 100 best national universities.
Located halfway between New York City and Washington, D.C. and a short 45-minute drive from Philadelphia, the University of Delaware allows for meaningful connections and opportunities across the country.
As a Tier-1 research university ranked among the top 3% of universities in terms of research activity, UD offers a commitment to excellent education across undergraduate, postgraduate and professional levels. UD is among a small group of universities in the U.S. to hold the ''triple crown'' designation of being a Land Grant, Sea Grant, and Space Grant university. Its faculty are experienced academics who prioritise the intellectual and cultural development of their students and fellow scholars. As a result, graduates at the University of Delaware leave with the tools and skills they need to contribute to and lead in an increasingly connected, global society. Integrity, creativity and dedication are key attributes of UD graduates.
Across each of the University of Delaware's 150+ undergraduate majors and its many graduate programs, faculty promote an environment in which all people are inspired to learn, and they encourage intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, free inquiry and respect for the views and values of those from across the globe.
Alumni from UD have gone on to become judges, senators, the CEOs of major corporations, renowned scholars in many fields and the current president of the United States of America.
