Overview

The University of Greenwich equips students with the employability skills and confidence to achieve extraordinary things. The institution welcomes students from over 100 countries across its three campuses in London and Kent.

Rated amongst the greenest universities in the UK, its largest campus is based in the heart of Greenwich on a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Expert faculties teach over 200 undergraduate courses and 150 postgraduate courses, many of which are accredited. The university's four faculties cover liberal arts and sciences business, education and health and engineering and science. The main intakes begin when most courses start in September, however, some courses have intakes in January and April.

The University of Greenwich boasts modern facilities across three campuses. Over the last five years, it has invested almost GBP 80 million in labs, social and teaching spaces, as well as sports facilities. Students have access to a range of academic facilities, including well-stocked libraries, TV studios, editing suites, and clinical skills laboratories that replicate NHS wards. Social facilities on campus include student bars, a gym and countless coffee shops and restaurants.

Giving students the best chance of securing their dream jobs after graduation, the university has a dedicated employability and careers service team. Its services include one-to-one meetings with a career advisor, CV writing advice, and information on internships and voluntary work.

Because several of the university's courses are accredited by professional bodies, its high teaching standards are widely recognised. This accreditation provides employers with the confidence that the student has achieved a high-quality qualification. The university boasts successful, well-known alumni, including award-winning actors and Olympic athletes.

Work Placement Programmes

Workplace experience is becoming increasingly attractive for employers who are looking for the next upcoming stars for their organisation. To meet this demand, work placement programmes are offered by the University of Greenwich's Business School and Faculty of Engineering and Science, blending campus based study with a year of industrial practice where students will gain key industry experience and professional insights. Completing a work experience programme is great preparation for entering the working world, and gives participants a competitive edge when it comes to finding jobs.

A range of two-year master's work placement programmes are available in September & January intakes, and full details can be found on the university website.

Sustainable University

The University of Greenwich is a research-driven institution, and is motivated by the goal of effecting global change from the smallest to the largest of scales. The university is a sector leader in sustainability, whose ambitious Net Zero by 2030 strategic plan indicates a commitment to reducing its carbon footprint. Teaching quality

The University of Greenwich has been recognised by several prestigious organisations for its teaching excellence. Awarded Gold by the Teaching Excellence Framework, the university is renowned for its supportive, student-centred approach to education.

The University of Greenwich has received nine Times Higher Education Awards, including ones for outstanding engineering research, most innovative teacher, outstanding international strategy, and outstanding contribution to innovation and technology. It has also received four Queen's Anniversary Prizes for Higher and Further Education and two Guardian University Awards.

The university's worldwide campuses and partner colleges are home to over 38,000 international students from more than 100 countries. They are taught by specialist teaching staff who have comprehensive knowledge of their chosen industries.

Many of the university's courses are accredited by professional bodies including the ACCA, the Royal Institute of British Architects, Engineering Accreditation Board, BCS and The Chartered Institute for IT, as well as the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

Over the last five years, the University of Greenwich has invested over GBP 80 million in campus facilities. This includes libraries, computing, student centres and sports facilities. The libraries boast working spaces, group study rooms, computers, and thousands of books.

There has also been an additional investment for computing facilities and teaching spaces in the Dreadnought Building. Reopened in 2018 after a GBP 25 million makeover, it now houses the Greenwich Students' Union, a gym and social space.

Department structure

The University of Greenwich provides high-quality courses across numerous faculties and schools. Its faculties include:

Business School

Offering courses accredited by professional bodies, the school provides an engaging learning environment led by expert academic staff from across the world. The school has strong industry links and works closely with employers to ensure its programmes remain relevant. The Business School offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes with an industry placement that enables students to apply their knowledge and gain practical experience.

Faculty of Education & Health

Dedicated to inspirational learning, the faculty's teaching combines work placements and impactful research. Its wide range of partners ensures that students are challenged academically and given a solid foundation to practice their developing skills and knowledge.

Faculty of Engineering & Science

The faculty includes the academic disciplines of engineering, science and pharmacy, as well as the Natural Resources Institute (NRI). Located at the Medway campus, the Faculty of Engineering and Science is responsible for the majority of the university's academic provision. The Faculty of Engineering & Science offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes with an industry placement that enables students to gain invaluable skills and work experience.

Faculty of Liberal Arts and Science

Spanning across four departments, students can choose from a range of degrees across a vast selection of subjects. The faculties innovative teaching and research methods provide students with a unique educational experience. Students in this faculty will benefit from studying at the ‘state of the art' Stockwell Street campus, a centre for creativity and collaboration.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

International applicants can either apply to the University of Greenwich via an authorised in-country representative or directly through a free online form.

To be considered for a course, international applicants need to submit the following:

  • English language qualifications (IELTS score of 6.0 for undergraduate courses and 6.5 for postgraduate courses. A wide range of alternative English tests and high school English grades are also accepted
  • Full academic transcripts
  • Personal statement
  • References
  • Other documents that might be required for their chosen course.

Entry requirements vary depending on the course, and all admissions offers are sent electronically to either the agent or directly to the student's e-mail account.

If applicants meet their chosen programme's criteria, they may receive an unconditional offer from the university.

Conditional offers will be made to applicants who do not yet meet the specific entry requirements, including if academic qualifications still need to be completed. If applicants do not meet course requirements, they may also be offered a place on a more suitable programme or have the chance to apply for the University of Greenwich International College (UGIC). Depending on the course applied for, applicants may need to meet country-specific requirements.

Alternative English tests such as TOEFL, PTE Academic, GCSE English or WAEC English Language are also considered. If the applicant does not meet the English language requirements, they can take a test available online.

Facilities

Facilities

The university provides a wide selection of world-class facilities. This includes:

Accommodation

University accommodation is guaranteed for most students with a safe and secure environment. Accommodation is located within a walking distance from campus and a student shuttle service is available for students across campuses.

There are around 2,400 hall places on or near its campuses, including:

  • On-site gym, cafe, shop and laundrette
  • Free on-campus gym membership and access to ActiveGRE activities
  • 24/7 security staff and residential support

Students who will be under the age of 18 during their first year of study will be offered alternative housing options by the accommodation services team.

Dreadnought Building

A central hub for students, the Dreadnought Building is home to the Students' Union. It boasts plenty of spaces to study and socialise, including gyms, cafes, and an events area in the basement.

Sports facilities

Sport plays a big part in university life, and all campuses have fully equipped gyms. The Avery Hill campus also has a specialist sports centre with two floodlit all-weather sports pitches and a five-court sports hall.

Stockwell Street & Drill Hall Library

The University of Greenwich's two libraries are well-stocked with books and learning resources. The Drill Hall library provides 400 computers, training rooms and several group study areas, while in-depth academic support from essay writing to study skills are provided by the academic skills team at the Stockwell Street library.

Transport links

All three campuses have brilliant transport links. The intercampus bus services which run between Greenwich and Avery Hill is free, and there is a small fee between Medway Campus and the other sites.

Both Greenwich and Avery Hill campuses offer quick connections to central London via bus and train, and Medway Campus is just 45-minutes away by train.

Scholarships & funding

Scholarships & funding

International students can receive a range of financial support through scholarships and funding options. This includes:

International Scholarship Award

Every year, the University of Greenwich's International Scholarship Award is awarded to the brightest and best international students in the form of a tuition fee reduction. Applicants need to be international students holding an offer for a full-time course paying the fees at the international rate. Scholarships up to £5000 are available.

EU Bursary

New EU students will be supported by the EU Bursary in the form of tuition fee reduction for each year of study. Applicants need to be EU students holding an offer for a full-time course. The EU Bursary is available up to £3000 and applied automatically to all EU students record.

Discount for full payment

International students can receive a five percent discount on their net tuition fees. To achieve this discount, students need to make the full payment before 30th September for courses starting in September and before 31st January for January starters.

Alumni Progression Bursary

International applicants for postgraduate courses can apply for a tuition fee reduction if they complete an undergraduate degree at either University of Greenwich or a partner college. A 20 percent tuition fee reduction will be given if the applicant holds a first-class or upper second-class undergraduate degree. A 10 percent reduction will be awarded if the applicant achieves a lower second-class degree or completes an Erasmus placement with the university.
