Scholarships & funding

Scholarships & funding

Studying at UNLV can be inspiring and exciting, but there are financial expenses associated with attending the university. As part of their application to UNLV, international students must demonstrate their ability to fund their studies. Limited financial aid is available to international students.

Financial aid for international students primarily consists of scholarships, private non-federal alternative loans, on-campus employment, graduate assistantships, and any financial assistance received from the student's home country.

International students may secure a private non-federal alternative loan with a credit-worthy U.S. citizen or permanent resident who will likely need to co-sign the loan with them. Students must check with the bank they are interested in to determine who can offer the best borrowing terms and conditions.

International students must also determine how an eligible noncitizen can establish federal and state financial aid.

The Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships is available to help international students navigate their applications for additional funding support.

Safety & support

Safety & support

The team at UNLV understands that a lot of personal issues can prevent students from achieving the success they are destined for, due to circumstance or the general pressures of academic learning. Some of these resources include, but aren't limited to:

  • Support for students experiencing homelessness
  • Support for students who are having financial difficulties, including provision of food items
  • Counselling and psychological services
  • Support with childcare
  • Affordable, reduced-cost internet services and a technology loan program
  • Physical health services

There are also members of staff who are specifically trained in helping international students with issues they may face during their time in Nevada.

On-campus Safety

The safety of students is taken seriously at UNLV, with various measures in place and resources available to ensure that all students are protected during their time on campus.

The university has its own police force dedicated to providing protection and service to the community by ensuring a safe and secure environment conducive to a positive social and educational experience.

They are available to respond to emergencies and provide general safety support. There is also an emergency alert system across campus that students can use to request help, ask for a campus escort, or report an emergency. An official mobile safety app, RebelSAFE, provides UNLV students, employees, faculty, and community members with many features to keep themselves safe, including the ability to get in touch directly with the police force without delay.
