Founded in 1890, the University of Oklahoma is a public research university located in Norman, Oklahoma just 20 mins. south of Oklahoma City. OU?s Norman undergraduate population is slightly more than 20,000, giving students a major university experience in a private college atmosphere. With three campuses in Oklahoma, OU also offers study abroad opportunities at several locations and OU campuses overseas.
Many of the university?s degree programs are ranked best in the nation and provide real-world experiences for students. In fact, not only is OU home to the National Weather Center and world-renowned research, but students are able to begin working with researchers as early as their freshman year. The university offers over 160 majors at the baccalaureate level, more than 200 majors at the graduate level, and 45 graduate certificates.
The wide variety of academic programs, the dedicated faculty, the multicultural and international student body, the unique resources, the friendly and supportive community, and the traditions developed during 129 years of striving for academic excellence all contribute to the OU difference ? a difference that students will benefit from and contribute to as an OU student and alumnus.

The main campus is very walkable and the university takes a lot of pride in its beauty. They are also part of a close-knit community in Norman, OK and only 20 minutes away from a growing Oklahoma City.
The University of Oklahoma is a comprehensive research university. It encompasses a broad array of disciplines, ranging from the arts, architecture, chemistry, engineering to meteorology, medicine, microbiology and physics. OU is designated by the Carnegie Foundation as a Highest Research Activity institution, placing it in the highest tier of comprehensive research universities in the nation. The University Research Campus is a collaborative environment with a community engaged in research that leads to social, economic and academic advancement ? improving the global quality of life.
The central campus and the offices of administration of the University of Oklahoma are located on some 3,500 acres in Norman, a city of more than 100,000 residents. Norman is located near the center of the state, 20 miles south of Oklahoma City, the state capital. The Norman campus consists of four sections ? central campus, south campus, research campus and north campus. Most of the academic and administrative buildings are located on the central campus, noted for its Cherokee Gothic architecture and award-winning landscaping.
