Established in 1972, The Western Institute of Technology is the largest tertiary provider of education outcomes in Taranaki. It is Taranaki's only government-owned institute of technology and polytechnic and has a rich history of producing graduates with the knowledge and skills to pursue and succeed in their chosen career.
The institute offers a wide range of vocational courses to meet career related and other goals such as the development of life skills, gaining entry to higher level study or to gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of Māori culture. Courses at WITT include foundation level courses, through to bachelor and graduate diploma programmes at level 7. It provides compelling programmes that meet learner needs for progression and preparation for employment, in nine programme areas, which includes Engineering, Construction and Engineering Trades, Health and Wellbeing, Business, Computing and Design Technologies, Hospitality, Hair and Beauty, Foundation Learning and Pathways, Māori Development, Primary Industries, and Highways and Engineering Technologies. Each year, more than 5000 students enroll at WITT in over 60 different qualifications.
The comprehensive range of student support services offered by the institute allows for the supporting of learners to fully engage in their programme of study and optimize their learning experience. Its services include career planning and employment support, academic learning support, 24/7 online library access, health, chaplaincy and counseling. Western Institute of Technology also provides career and employment support and advice for prospective and enrolled students that includes assisting with career and pathways planning, programme choice, developing skills for employment, finding work and generally assisting with their move into employment or further study
WITT has strong links to the community and Taranaki industry that paves the way for greater job opportunities for its students.
