Department structure

Department structure

The Sydney City Campus offers students a varied choice of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in:

Bachelor's degrees at the Sydney City Campus typically take three years to complete full-time. However, students can take advantage of the trimester system to fast-track their bachelor's degree and complete it in only two years. Master's degrees take two years to complete.

The Sydney City Campus also offers a range of pathway options through SIBT college, enabling students who do not hold the necessary entry requirements to successfully enroll on specific degree-level courses at university. Pathway options include foundation and diploma programs. Students with a diploma from SIBT can then enter directly into the second year of university study at the Sydney City Campus.

Students at Sydney City Campus can start their degree in March, July or October for all undergraduate and postgraduate programs, except for postgraduate business programs, which are offered in January, April, June and September.

Located on Elizabeth Street, just across the road from Sydney's beautiful Hyde Park, Western's Sydney City Campus offers its students everything needed for academic success and personal development.

The campus is equipped with ultra-modern facilities including hi-tech computer rooms and printing services, inspiring study and social spaces, and high speed WiFi throughout. The Navitas Library is conveniently located on campus, giving students access to thousands of books, journals and online resources to support research and coursework assignments.

In the classroom, students at Sydney City Campus benefit from the latest technologies including interactive whiteboards and recording facilities, alongside course-specific, state-of-the-art hardware and software. Furthermore, the university supplies laptops and iPads for in-class presentations and tutorial work. The university's iHelp team is always on hand to provide face-to-face and remote technical support for all students and staff.

Students also enjoy access to all facilities at other Western campuses.

Being located in the heart of Sydney, students are surrounded by an impressive range of food and drink options, with the campus surrounded by cafes, food courts and restaurants. Chinatown and Koreatown are each just a short walk away, as well as other cuisine options from around the world.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

Academic requirements

Students must meet Western's academic and English language entry requirements in order to study at Sydney City Campus. Requirements may vary between courses, so students are advised to carefully check their eligibility for their chosen course prior to application.

English language requirements

For international students for whom English is not a first language, it is necessary to supply evidence of English language proficiency. For most undergraduate and postgraduate courses, students must hold a minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5, with no band lower than 6.0, or an equivalent qualification.

Pathways

Students who do not meet the conditions for direct entry onto their course at Western can enrol on one of the university's pathway options, with diplomas offering students the ability to enter directly into the second year of their chosen degree program.

Scholarships

All international students enrolling on an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at Sydney City Campus will be automatically considered for one of the university's multi-year scholarships, ranging in value from AUD 3,000 to AUD 6,000 per year.

Student support

Student support

Western makes the welfare of its students its number one priority, providing multiple support services to ensure that their transition into university and their ongoing studies go smoothly.

Students can access academic support at the Sydney City Campus through the university's student learning advisors. These advisors are able to provide course advice, study support, one-on-one assignment help, language practice, and even general guidance to getting settled in Australia.

For pastoral and mental health support, the student welfare and counselling team offer free and confidential counselling services to students. Services available include advice on making friends and adjusting to university life, help staying on track with studies, financial guidance, accommodation support, and specific international student support. The team is also able to guide students to external resources for more specific assistance.

Accessibility support is also available on campus.

Sydney is the fourth safest city in the world (Economist Safe Cities Index, 2021). Even so, Western takes the safety of its students very seriously, and the Sydney City Campus has 24-hour security on-site.
