Founded in 1899, Texas State University is among the largest universities in Texas with an enrolment of 38,000 students on campuses in San Marcos and Round Rock. Albert B. Alkek Library is the most important information resource of the Texas State University community. The mission of the library is to help its patrons succeed by providing high quality library services and information in a variety of formats to support the university's teaching and research programs. The Alkek Library Collection Includes: More than 1.5 million printed volumes, 99,700 plus electronic journals, 506,000 e-books, 625 plus databases and over a half-million microform & audio-visual materials.

Student organizations at Texas State University actively participate in and contribute to a vibrant university community by meeting these expectations. The approximately over 400 registered student organizations at the university provide valuable experiences and opportunities for students to grow as individuals, leaders, and community members.

Texas State's San Marcos campus is located in a growing community of 60,000 people in the Austin Metropolitan Area. Located in the Texas Hill Country, where blackland prairies roll into beautiful hills, Texas State enjoys a setting that is unique among Texas universities. The beauty of the crystal-clear San Marcos River and the stately cypress and oak trees on the campus add to the charm of the university’s picturesque setting. The Texas State Round Rock Campus is located north of Austin.
