University of Missouri, Kansas City got its start in 1930 with a gift from William Volker, a man fondly remembered for his generosity. The university is the largest comprehensive, fully accredited university in the Kansas City area. The faculty are leaders in their fields and they're within reach. 14:1 student-to-faculty ratio means professors know their students' names and take mentorship seriously. Students come from all 50 states and 85 countries, enriching the community with diverse perspectives. And with more than 125 academic areas, students have a lot of opportunities to explore on their way to discovering and creating their perfect career.

From treating cancer to diagnosing Alzheimer’s to using drones to deliver aid, UMKC is leading the way in solving some of the world’s greatest scientific challenges. The University of Missouri-Kansas City is a research university on the move. It plays a major role in the Kansas City area as an educator, employer and research leader, but more broadly, they are at the forefront of some of the most important research happening across the country and around the world.

There are a lot of ways to for students to get involved on campus. Students can join one of the university’s 300 campus organizations ranging from hobbies, academic and athletic clubs to service and volunteer groups or start students can start their own.

The university is in the heart of Kansas City and gives students easy access to jobs and internships, entertainment, shopping and restaurants. The original home of the University of Kansas City (now UMKC), Volker Campus is named after William Volker, a wealthy businessman and philanthropist who donated a mansion (now Scofield Hall) and 40 acres of land to the University of Kansas City. Health Sciences Campus includes the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Nursing and Health Studies, which are located in an area known as Hospital Hill.
