Bachelor of Arts in Education - Special Education
在亞利桑那州立大學
關於課程
Special educators make a difference in the lives of children and families. They are curious about how people learn and develop throughout their lifespan. A special education degree prepares students to understand human diversity, communicate effectively and develop problem-solving skills that support their success and that of others.
The BAE in special education prepares graduates to work with K-12 students with disabilities in inclusive settings. Teacher candidates learn to use evidence-based practices that promote students' success with general education content, including high leverage practices in literacy, math, sciences and social studies. They develop adaptive techniques for students with disabilities and learn to use instructional and assistive technologies to facilitate success.
Students participate in professional experiences designed to expose them to numerous ways of teaching and learning. These internships and residencies are embedded during the junior and senior years to provide teacher candidates with multiple opportunities to work directly with children and youth. With the support of a certified lead teacher and an ASU faculty member called a site lead, students are able to practice what is learned during coursework in authentic settings.
Program graduates are eligible for the Standard Professional Mild/Moderate Disabilities Special Education Certificate - Grades K-12. Those desiring to teach in a public school in Arizona must pass the appropriate Arizona educator exams: National Evaluation Series or Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessments.
