Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design

The Interior Design major prepares students to design innovative, functional, supportive and responsible interior environments that positively impact the quality of life. The curriculum develops students' skills and knowledge in color and design, drafting, space planning, building and interior systems, materials and finishes, historical interiors, building and barrier-free codes, and Auto-CAD. The needs of special populations and the mandates that regulate the field of interior design are emphasized. Illinois State's Interior Design program is accredited by the Council of Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). This prepares students for entry-level Interior Design practice, for advanced study, and to apply for membership in professional Interior Design organizations. The BS or BA in Interior Design granted by Illinois State University meets the educational requirement for eligibility to sit for the National Council for Interior Design Qualification Examination (NCIDQ Exam). Interior Design at Illinois State prepares students to design innovative and functional spaces. Students in this program have access to a state-of-the art studio that includes a lighting lab, materials library, and technology. Students also have opportunities to visit professional interior design firms and study abroad. Curriculum in this program is updated regularly to ensure students receive a modern and cutting-edge education.
