The Department of English?s mission is to graduate students who value imagination, creativity, and expression, and who will advocate for these habits of mind in their own writing, research, and teaching. Our faculty and students are dedicated to the study of the utility, intricacy, and beauty of cultural production in English, and they advance the understanding and appreciation of these virtues through original research and creative activities.The diversity and complexity of the human experience is represented throughout the entire range of literature written in English, and we believe that intensive study of literature and writing advances the humanistic values of discovery, critique, compassion, and innovation. Our practices and methods prepare our students to understand and solve problems through research, to create texts for various audiences and purposes, and to find new forms of expression in a variety of genres and media.

Entry requirements for 加州州立大學長堤分校
Students applying for admission to the MFA degree program generally have completed a bachelor?s or master?s degree in English from an accredited institution with a 3.2 GPA in upper-division English courses, meet university admission requirements, and submit evidence of creative ability in fiction or poetry (10 pages poetry, 20-30 pages fiction).
Students who have obtained a degree level comparable to a U.S. bachelor degree and looking to advance their studies are considered ?graduate? students.
have earned a grade point average of at least 2.5 on the last degree completed by the candidate or have attained a grade point average of at least 2.5 (A=4.0) in the last 60 semester (90 quarter) units attempted
All transcripts/individual mark sheets from all institutions attended
Transcripts must show grades for at least 6 semesters. Please do not send transcripts until those grades are posted to avoid having to submit multiple transcripts
TOEFL iBT - 80 and TOEFL PBT - 550
IELTS - 6.0
