Emerging technologies such as self-driving cars or reusable spacecraft or Drones are increasingly relying on the design and deployment of autonomous systems. This programme will prepare you to face the challenges of a global market with emphasis on autonomous vehicles and mobile robots operating in ground, air, and space.
You will gain in-depth knowledge of recent advances in the theory and practice of Robotics, Machine Learning, Image Processing, Human-Machine Teaming, Communication, and Control. You will also develop valuable software and hardware skills via extensive lab work in programming and embedded systems design, through industrial design projects.
In addition to the technical part of the programme, you will be introduced to the legal and regulations framework of Autonomous Systems, and the ethical issues arising from their deployment.
You will learn through a series of lectures, design projects, tutorials, laboratory work, and seminars. Lectures and seminars provide a solid theoretical understanding and will be delivered by Academics and Industrialists with expert knowledge in the field.
From search-and-rescue robots to satellites which can refuel others, Autonomous Systems and related technologies are expected to expand significantly in the near future and form an important part of the UK and the global economy.

Applicants should hold a Bachelor's degree with lower second class honours or above, in mechanical or automotive engineering or a related scientific or engineering discipline.
Consideration is given to candidates who can demonstrate work experience in an appropriate field.
