Doctor of Philosophy in Anthropology - Historical Archaeology

The Ph.D. program in Anthropology is designed for students who wish to pursue original advanced research toward a doctorate while specializing in Historical Archaeology or Historical Anthropology. The intent of this program?s requirements is to build general proficiency and professional skills required in the discipline. This approach is designed to produce graduates who are maximally equipped to succeed in the job market for teaching positions and other equivalent professional positions. Program requirements include 36 hours of course work and the completion of a dissertation. In addition, students will complete the Paper and Presentation requirement, which results in an article-length paper that is presented to the department. Before starting on the dissertation work, students will write a grant proposal in support of their dissertation, targeted at a specific granting agency and defended before the department. Students in the Ph.D. program qualify for graduate assistantships. Funding is contingent on satisfactory progress as determined by the department?s Graduate Committee.
