Examples of the current research areas that our faculty are engaged in include enhanced hydrocarbon recovery, development of unconventional reservoirs, geomechanics of subsurface reservoirs, reservoir characterization, reservoir simulation, enhanced reservoir stimulation, unconventional drilling, well completion, fluid transmission lines, geo-storage of hydrogen and carbon dioxide, geothermal energy production, wastewater disposal, and environmental remediation of soil, groundwater, and other geologic media.

Statement of Purpose. Important: Within your statement of purpose, please identify up to three (3) EME faculty members with whom your academic interests most closely align. This identification may help in expediting and streamlining the review process of your application.
Three letters of recommendation. Letters must be uploaded by each of your referees via the GRADS electronic portal. Reference letters can come from a mix of letters from individuals in academia and/or industry who can elaborate on your potential to be successful in the EME research environment. A Letter of Evaluation Form may also be filled out by the referee and submitted electronically within the Reference Submission Portal.
When applicable, please upload copies of proof of financial support (corporate, government or personal sponsorship or scholarship) along with your statement of purpose (as a single PDF file).
Transcripts: Applicants are required to electronically upload copies of transcripts (or equivalent documents for institutions outside the U.S., e.g., degree/study certificates, diplomas, etc.) from all post-secondary institutions attended, in the language of instruction (and copies of an official English translation if English is not the language of instruction).
Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Scores (Required for review of application).
Scores from the Graduate Record Examination Aptitude Test (GRE) are required for admission for all applicants. GREs MUST be taken or scheduled BEFORE applying. A minimum score of 159 on the Quantitative portion with a minimum score of 3.5 on the Analytical Writing portion must be obtained. A minimum score of 146 on the Verbal portion is required.
All international applicants must take and submit scores for the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or the IELTS (International English Language Testing System), with the exceptions noted below. The minimum acceptable score for the TOEFL is 550 for the paper-based test, 213 for the computer-based test, or a total score of 80 with a 19 on the speaking section for the Internet-based test (iBT). Applicants with iBT speaking scores between 15 and 18 may be considered for provisional admission, with Graduate School approval, which requires an institutional test of English proficiency upon the first semester of enrollment and, if necessary, remedial course work. The minimum composite score for the IELTS is 6.5.
