Students who are admitted to the MS portion of the dual-degree program can substitute up to nine semester hours of undergraduate course work for their bachelor?s degree with an equal number of semester hours of MS-level graduate course work, as discussed below, with the permission of the chair of the Accounting Department. Students who apply nine credits of graduate study to their undergraduate requirements must seek advisement to ensure that they complete a minimum of 150 total semester hours, at the graduate or undergraduate level, and comply with state licensing requirements, after applying nine credits to both the BBA and MS programs.
Today's accountants aren't number-crunchers. They're detectives who use math and data to solve puzzles and make sense of an organization's bottom-line. They serve as advisors, analysts, auditors and chief financial officers, charting the course of Fortune 500 firms. They're ambitious entrepreneurs who start their own practices or become partners at international accounting firms. Accounting is the language of business, and at Hofstra's Frank G. Zarb School of Business, you'll develop the skills and knowledge to speak it fluently and build a thriving career in the global marketplace. Depending on your interests and goals, you can pursue a general accounting degree or choose the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Licensure program, which requires additional coursework and allows you to sit for the CPA exam in New York and other states. The outlook for the accounting industry is strong. The U.S. Department of Labor projects 10 percent job growth by 2026, faster than the average for all occupations.
