Associate of Arts in English
在昆特蘭理工大學
關於課程
The purpose of a degree in English is to provide students with an understanding of how stories shape our lives. In our program, students examine literature in a variety of social, historical, and cultural contexts, and relate the literary works they read not only to the historical periods in which they were produced, but also to the world we live in today. In addition to studying poetry, fiction, drama from the Middles Ages to today, KPU English students can study a wide range of cultural creations, including world literatures, Indigenous narratives, diasporic literatures, and popular and emerging genres such as graphic novels, classic and contemporary film, and digital narratives.
English students are, above all, people who are fascinated by the power of words and ideas to transform minds, lives, and society. We are not only interested in exploring the diversity, complexity, depth, and meaning of human experience, but also in understanding the countless ways that artists have found to represent that experience in their works. We are excited by the opportunity to share our interpretations and ideas with others and to make meaning by engaging with writers and works across time, cultures, and disciplines. At the same time, we are also careful to observe the features of a work that place it in a distinct historical and cultural context. This unique training produces informed, multifaceted graduates who are prepared to interpret, understand, and navigate complex issues in a range of situations and contexts. For this reason, students who graduate with a degree in English literature are often highly valued by employers and advanced study programs.
By choosing to pursue a Concentration in English at the Associate level, students will build an excellent foundation for a variety of careers and further studies. Those who wish to continue to a B.A. Major or Minor in English should take a variety of English courses within their Associate of Arts degree.
