As an abbreviated version of the Master of Arts program, the Graduate Certificate program is a good alternative for students who are interested in studying bioethics at the graduate-level, but not necessarily in pursuing a full master?s degree. Many of our certificate students have complimentary professional degrees or experience in medicine, law, and ministry, and the graduate certificate enhances their work or broadens their professional scope. For others, the graduate certificate offers a glimpse into the field of bioethics that allows them to make more educated decisions about their next steps: whether it be further graduate study, preparing for clinical or consultative work, or something else.

Requiring a total of 12 credits over 4 courses, the Graduate Certificate in Bioethics can be completed in a single academic year by taking two courses in both Fall and Spring semesters.

The Graduate Certificate Program follows the same application process and admission criteria as the master's program, enabling students who begin in the Graduate Certificate program to transfer onto the master’s track if desired.
Baccalaureate degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution
Undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0
Two Letters of Recommendation from persons acquainted with the applicant’s professional and academic background. Personal Statement of 2-4, typed, double-spaced pages, addressing the following three areas: (1) The applicant’s academic and/or professional background, (2) Why the applicant wishes to pursue graduate studies in bioethics at LMU, (3) How the applicant intends to use the degree or certificate after graduation. Submit by uploading to online Graduate Division Application. Short Essay, Two Copies of Official Postsecondary Transcripts from all schools attended since high school. All international applicants must have their transcripts translated and evaluated by a U.S. transcript evaluation service (e.g. Global Services Associates, Educational Credential Evaluators, International Education Research Foundation or World Education Services) before the application is considered for admission. The purpose of the evaluation is to verify that your postsecondary degree is the equivalent of a U.S. Bachelor’s degree. The minimum scores for admission are 100 Internet-based (TOEFL) or an Overall Band Score of 7 (IELTS).
