Sustainability is a rapidly growing interdisciplinary field that focuses on the two main global challenges of our time – climate change and finite planetary resources. The courses in this concentration explore how corporations, governments, environmental organizations, and universities are addressing these challenges in a variety of ways, such as environmental activism, technical innovations in renewable energy, green building design, and transportation, community organizing, new organizational models, media campaigns, environmental legislation, and sustainability literacy. Students with demonstrated knowledge of sustainability may pursue careers in virtually all areas of employment that are mainstreaming sustainability, such as business, government agencies, community and nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, real estate, environmental organizations, and economic development.
