In Statistics there is often no single correct way to analyze a data set or answer a scientific question. Many methods of statistical inference are based on probability models, and finding an appropriate model depends on a deep understanding of probability theory. Theoretical statistics incorporates more than just probability modeling in its quest to squeeze all information from a data set. Researchers at Rice have contributed to understanding probability models and their application in numerous fields including finance, population genetics, and biological systems. They have also made breakthroughs in statistical methodologies for many new types of complex data sets that arise in environmental engineering, biomedical research, and other areas.

Entry requirements for 萊斯大學
Prerequisites
Prospective students applying to the Ph.D. in Statistics program generally have the following mathematics background. Graduate Record Examination scores (quantitative, verbal, and analytical) GRE scores are considered optional (but recommended) for Spring 2021 and Fall 2021 applicants due to COVID-19.

Three letters of recommendation
TOEFL scores should also be included when appropriate All documents should be uploaded online with your application. It is not necessary to mail in any paper materials. Official transcripts are required only after admission to the program. The TOEFL IBT Home. A minimum score of 90 is required.
IELTS Indicator. A minimum score of 7 is required. TOEFL, at least 600 on the paper-based TOEFL or score 250 on the computer-based TOEFL. In general, applicants should have at least a 3.0 (B) grade point average, or the equivalent, in their undergraduate work.
English language requirements
