he Teacher Education specialization focuses on the study and improvement of teaching (across subject areas in elementary and secondary schools) and teacher education (throughout the career span). Students in this program are often interested in the relationship between the subject being taught and the particular pedagogical knowledge and skills needed to teach that subject effectively, and in effective ways of facilitating teacher learning of this body of knowledge and skills. They are concerned with the educational consequences of different approaches to teaching and the policies that shape teaching and teacher education. Many students build careers within institutions of higher education where teachers are prepared and where the practice of teaching can be studied and improved. The purpose of this specialization is to help students develop a framework for understanding teaching, research on teaching, and the implications of research for the improvement of teaching, teacher education, and policy. The program aims to prepare teacher educators and educators to understand and address the needs of students in culturally and linguistically diverse classrooms.

Statement of purpose- Your typed, single-spaced statement of purpose should be between one and two pages. Describe your reasons for applying, your preparation for this field of study, why our program is a good fit for you, your future career goals, and other aspects of your background and interests that might aid the admissions committee in evaluating your aptitude and motivation for graduate study.
If you are applying to the doctoral program, you should include your research interests and the names of two or three faculty members whose work closely converges with yours, to identify potential advisors. DAPS applicants have a specific statement of purpose prompt, please review it below under the program-specific requirements section.
Transcripts- Applicants from institutions outside the U.S. must hold the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor?s degree from a college or university of recognized standing. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that the all application materials, including letters of recommendation and official test scores, are submitted by the published deadline. In addition, please note: Due to the large number of applications we receive, we are unable to provide status updates or confirm receipt of application materials via email or phone call. Should we have any trouble accessing your application materials, we will contact you directly.
GRE- Due to conditions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, the GSE will not require the GRE for admission for the 2021-2022 academic year. However, some GSE programs provide the opportunity to submit GRE scores if you have taken the test and feel that your scores would enhance your application. Not submitting your GRE scores when your program of interest offers you the option to submit them does not affect your application negatively in any way.
