The Construction Engineering and Management Program was created in 1990 and is a concentration in the Department of Civil Engineering at The Catholic University of America. It offers studies at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral level with specialized courses within the civil engineering curriculum. The construction program hosts a quarter of the undergraduate and graduate students within the Civil Department.
The construction program maintains a strong and longstanding cooperation with the construction industry and its professional organizations in the greater Washington metropolitan region. Existing for three decades, it is renowned for the quality of the professional preparation of its graduates. At the undergraduate level, it has a semester-long surveying course and a mandatory internship program. Undergraduate students must complete at least two full summer internships after their sophomore and junior year, with at least one in the field, as a requirement for being awarded the bachelor's degree. Many undergraduate students complete three internships and some are already working part-time when they graduate. Internships also typically lead to full-time employment directly upon graduation. Additionally, undergraduate students enroll in two graduate courses as program electives in their senior year. The construction program works closely together with the Center for Academic and Career Success at Catholic University, which e.g. organizes the Engineering Internship and Job Fair and other events and services and maintains the Cardinal Connection database.

For international students, demonstration of English language proficiency following general Catholic University requirements
Minimally accepted TOEFL scores, when applying for graduate programs, are 550-paper, 213-computer, and 80 Internet. Students taking the TOEFL should have at least 20 out of 30 in each of the TOEFL subcategories. The minimally accepted graduate IELTS score is 6.5. Individual IELTS test module scores are also reviewed in addition to the overall IELTS score.
Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher is typically required.
Admission for those seeking a master's degree or graduate certificate is typically based on undergraduate record and may also consider relevant work experience and motivation towards study in the program in question as demonstrated by the applicant's personal statement. Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher is typically required, and students must maintain a 3.0 GPA during graduate study to remain in good standing.
The minimum requirement for admission to the M.S. degree program is a baccalaureate degree from an accredited university. The minimum requirement for admission to the master's degree program of a particular department is an undergraduate degree from an accredited engineering program. Additional requirements may apply based on undergraduate performance.
The minimum GPA required from regular admission to master's degree programs is 3.0 for bachelor level courses. Provisional admission can be granted to students with a GPA less than 3.0. Provisional admission will be converted to regular admission after the student passes a set of approved graduate level courses with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
