All students earn a master's and can add on initial Illinois licensure and credentials. The program welcomes students entirely new to teaching, current teachers new to special education, current special education teachers and students seeking new knowledge about special education.

Entry requirements for 伊利諾大學芝加哥分校
Applicants are considered on an individual basis. Applicants must submit transcripts from the last 60 hours of undergraduate work and from all postbaccalaureate work. In addition to the Graduate College minimum requirements, applicants must meet the following program requirements:
Baccalaureate Field No restrictions.
Grade Point Average At least 2.75/4.00 for the final 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of undergraduate study, and at least 3.00/4.00 for all postbaccalaureate course work.
Tests Required For the LBS I and LBS II Illinois licensure and endorsement options, passing scores on the Illinois Test of Academic Proficiency (TAP). The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) allows for the following test scores to be substituted for the TAP:
ACT
Tests taken prior to 9/1/15—Composite score of 22 with a combined English/Writing score of 19
Tests taken 9/1/15 to 9/9/16—Composite score of 22 with a Writing score of 16
Tests taken 9/10/16 and later—Composite score of 22 with a Writing score of 6
SAT
Tests taken prior to 3/5/16—Composite score of 1030 (mathematics and critical writing) with a minimum Writing score of 450
Tests taken 3/5/16 and later—Composite score of 1110 (evidence-based reading and writing + mathematics = 1110 or higher) and a minimum score of 26 on writing and language

Scores from the TAP or ACT or SAT (in lieu of TAP) are valid indefinitely.
Minimum English Competency Test Score
TOEFL 80, with subscores of Reading 19, Listening 17, Speaking 20, and Writing 21 (iBT Internet-based). Note: Total score is higher than the sum of the subscores, 60, with subscores of Reading 19, Listening 17, Writing 21 (New Paper-Based—after August 2018), 550 (Institutional Testing Paper-Based—prior to August 2018), OR,
IELTS 6.5, with subscores of 6.0 for all four subscores, OR,
PTE-Academic 54, with subscores of Reading 51, Listening 47, Speaking 53, and Writing 56.
Letters of Recommendation Three required, addressing the applicant’s academic qualifications, teaching experience, and potential for advanced-degree studies. Letters should be from current or former professors and/or supervisors.
Personal Statement Required, the statement, in a minimum of 300 wordsa, must address the applicant’s professional goals and acknowledge the urban focus of UIC special education programs.
UIC Disposition Rating Chart Required for MEd Plus LBS II option, to be completed by applicant and by at least one recommender.a
Professional Resume Required for students applying for the MEd Plus LBS II option, the resume must include all teaching experience and leadership.
English language requirements
