Health sociology in the department involves the examination of health and illness at the intersections of social structures and institutions, governments and policies, healthcare systems and personal experiences.
UBC sociology has a strong history of engaging in community and service oriented learning projects, providing students with hands-on learning experiences carrying out research for partnering organizations in and around Vancouver (e.g. RainCity Housing, SPEC, City of Vancouver, Neighborhood House Association, Be The Change). There is a strong co-op tradition, and the Department also runs the Immigrant Vancouver Ethnographic Field School (in conjunction with the Department of Anthropology). Sociologists of gender and sexuality explore changing gender relations and sexual identities within historical and contemporary contexts across national boundaries.

如何申請
Entry requirements for 英屬哥倫比亞大學
To be considered for admission to the MA program in full standing, an applicant should:
Hold a four-year degree in sociology or a cognate field (i.e. a closely related field with significant sociological content)
Attained first-class standing (80% at UBC) in their upper-level courses, especially their sociology courses
Meet all Specific Requirements for UBC Sociology (see below)
Meet all minimum requirements for admission to graduate studies at UBC set by the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL):
Paper exam: 600
Computer: 250
Internet: 100 (minimum 25 on reading and writing sections, minimum 22 on listening and speaking)
International English Language Testing Service (IELTS)
Overall score minimum 7.0, no less than 6.5 in any section
Applicants are required to scan official transcripts of all previous academic work from all post-secondary institutions. Please provide a written statement of academic goals that indicates your proposed area of study for the M.A. or Ph.D. degree in Sociology. Please provide a writing sample.
English language requirements
