Prospective applicants should have a Bachelor's degree in such areas as the physical or health sciences or engineering. Since this is an interdisciplinary program there are no specific prerequisite courses. We examine each applicant's record in the context of their career goals, and may advise some individuals to supplement their undergraduate coursework to maximize their chance of success.
All applicants must satisfy the general regulations and academic standing requirements (at least a B+ average) of the Faculty of Graduate Studies of UBC. In exceptional circumstances, candidates with other backgrounds or mature students whose work experience makes up for deficiencies in standing may be admitted with the permission of the Program Director and the Dean of Graduate Studies.
All students must provide demonstration of proficiency in quantitative skills as evidenced by either a score of at least 76% or B+ on an undergraduate course such as mathematics, statistics, physics or completion of the Graduate Record Exam.

The minimum TOEFL score is 100 for TOEFL internet test. A minimum overall band score of 7.0 is required with a minimum score of 6.5 in each component of the academic (NOT general) IELTS test.
A Letter of Intent. This letter should explain your reasons for interest in the program, your future career plans, and your research interests (if you are planning a thesis-based masters).
