The program’s characteristics are as follows:
A 15-month, 49.3-unit, on-campus program, spanning from September of the first year to December of the second year.
Dedicated study room in which MSWE students are encouraged to study and work on their projects.
First quarter of intensive programming exercises designed to solidify and broaden students’ knowledge of the large computing landscape, covering essential knowledge in Computer Science and Computer Systems.
Students will spend close to 1,300 hours learning through programming and analyzing code.
Domestic professionals working full-time must enroll in the MSWE program part-time. All other students must enroll full-time.
The Career Development Team offers group workshops and 1-on-1 appointments to guide students on all aspects of securing an internship and full-time position, such as resume review and salary negotiation.
The MSWE curriculum includes:
Six courses that cover the foundations of software construction, maintenance, and quality, via hands-on projects.
Courses that help prepare students for the non-technical aspects of professional careers.
An experiential learning requirement, in which students are responsible for securing an internship or project during the summer.
A small-group capstone project during the final quarter, in which students will be responsible for designing and implementing a substantial piece of software, be it standalone or an add-on to an existing system. This project includes challenging aspects, such as information classification and machine learning modules, strict performance requirements, very large code bases, deployment in the cloud, etc.

Entry requirements for 加州大學爾灣分校
Applicants should have the following prerequisites completed before enrolling into the MWSE program:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent
Proficiency in written and spoken English
Knowledge of data structures, such as lists, arrays, trees, and associative arrays
Proficiency in two general-purpose programming languages. It does not matter which ones. (Projects in this program involve several programming languages, with Python and Java dominating at the moment)
Letters of Recommendation Three letters of recommendation are required.
Transcripts: For application review purposes only, scan and upload copies of transcripts for all institutions attended since high school. In the online application, you will be prompted to upload your scanned documents. Please upload both the front and back sides of the transcript. Uploaded transcripts should be recent and include the following: your name, dates of attendance, grades/marks received, credits and grading legend. UCI reserves the right to require official transcripts at any time during the admission process, and rescind any offer of admission made if discrepancies between uploaded and official transcript(s) are found. Official transcripts will be requested if and when you are admitted and decide to attend UCI. Do not send official transcripts until this time, unless you are requested to do so.

TOEFL iBT -80 , IELTS -overall minimum score of 7 and no scores less than 6 on any individual module. For the paper-based test, a minimum score of 550
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution with degree standards equivalent to those of the University of California.
Minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or its equivalent.
English language requirements
