Students with undergraduate degrees in biology, neuroscience, cognitive science and psychology, and any of the life sciences or related disciplines are invited to apply to the Graduate Program in Neurobiology. Prerequisites: Neurobiology is inherently interdisciplinary and extremely broad, and most students doing graduate work in this area will have strengths in one of the relevant areas and weaknesses in others. Program requirements are designed to address background deficiencies, so students with uneven backgrounds should not hesitate to apply. Ideally, applicants should have some collegiate level course work in biology (optimally including an introductory neurobiology course), an introductory psychology course, and some mathematics or stats. Research experience is also a key element. The admissions committee takes into consideration the entire application package, including submitted transcripts and scores, letters of recommendation, statement of purpose, and, especially, academic and research background. All postsecondary education transcripts from which a degree was awarded , Transcripts must be scanned and uploaded to the link provided in the online application. Your Research Statement should discuss your academic and career objectives. Be specific about the field in which you plan to study and your particular research interests. Three letters of recommendation, GRE test scores are optional. If submitted they must be from within the last five years. The University of Chicago institution code is 1832. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The minimum score for admission to the BSD is 104 overall with subscores of 26 each. International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Please note: only the Academic Reading/Writing test, not the General Training Reading/Writing test, is acceptable. The minimum score for admission to the BSD is 7 overall with subscores of 7 each.
