Master in Engineering in Bioengineering

The Bioengineering Graduate Program, centered in the Department of Bioengineering, is preparing future bioengineering leaders in academia, industry and government. The program is one of the most innovative graduate programs in the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's College of Engineering. The Bioengineering Graduate Program has a long history of providing students with educational and research training and experiences that integrate the sciences of biology and medicine with the practices and principles of engineering. Students have the opportunity to work with any of more than 60 members of the Graduate Program Faculty, who represent numerous disciplines.The Department of Bioengineering offers a one-year, non-thesis, professional Master in Engineering (M.Eng.) in Bioengineering degree. The curriculum integrates technical skills development with an understanding of business fundamentals. Graduates are equipped with technical skills and big-picture business perspective – trained to find creative solutions to complex, multi-level systems problems.Reflective of the interdisciplinary nature of the field of bioengineering, students who have graduated from the Master of Engineering program have pursued various careers. Many have gone onto work in industry, while others have continued to pursue further advanced degrees (MD, PhD, MS, etc.).The M.Eng. in Bioengineering degree is offered through the world-renowned College of Engineering at Illinois and includes a choice of one of three transcriptable concentrations: bioinstrumentation (with special focus on medical imaging devices), computational genomics (with focus on bioinformatics, genomic computational modeling and big data wrangling), and general bioengineering.
