Master of Arts in Theatre [Thesis]

The MA in Theatre option Thesis (two years) is focused on the fields of theatre theory and dramaturgy. The objective of this program is to bridge theoretical and practical approaches to the study of theatre by encouraging dialogue and understanding between practitioners and theoreticians. The program enables students to broaden their academic scope with regard to the epistemological and interdisciplinary specificities of theatre as an art form and as a discipline of study, it encourages the analysis of the Western world?s principal theatrical traditions from various discursive perspectives, it fosters a greater understanding of Canada?s two principal theatrical traditions and helps develop scholarly discourse in regards to each.
The Department of is one of Canada?s leading theatre schools. Contemporary training in our BFA (acting) and our MFA (directing) programs open the door to the world of professional theatre. Our theoretical programs (BA & MA) help you to deepen your understanding of Theatre Studies, from practice to teaching, from administration to technical theatre.
The Department?s seventy-plus professors, artist-mentors and technical staff teach, create, and complete research projects in two facilities which include workshops (sets and costumes), rehearsal studios, and three theatre spaces including the nearly 100-year-old Academic Hall (133-135 S?raphin Marion Private) and the brand new LabO (60 Waller Street, adjacent to Arts Court).
