The effective school counselor of the 21st century needs to be a dynamic professional well prepared to address the range of social-emotional, academic, career, and developmental needs of an increasingly complex and diverse student population. Our Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs-accredited school counseling programs prepare individuals to pursue leadership roles in schools as facilitators of healthy human development and advocates for change, positively impacting the success of individual students and school systems at large. Most states in the United States require state certification to hold school counseling positions in K-12 public schools. New York State has two levels of certification for school counseling, which are recognized in many other states and across the United States:
Initial Certification, Professional Certification.
The required practicum and two internship experiences can be pursued in elementary, middle, or secondary schools, depending on interest. Special internship opportunities at East High School, an urban school overseen by the University of Rochester’s Educational Partnership Organization (EPO).
The Internship Certificate offers graduate students in the school counseling program the opportunity to work as paid school counselors while pursuing their master's degree. This certificate is specifically designed for individuals who meet the criteria set by the New York State Education Department and the Warner School.

Entry requirements for 羅徹斯特大學

Applicants must have received a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent by the time they enter the program at Warner.
Applicants must have the ability to do graduate work at the University of Rochester, as demonstrated by their past academic performance and their academic writing skills.
Applicants must demonstrate sufficient communication and interpersonal skills to perform well in their chosen career in education.
Applicants’ career goals, professional interests, academic background, attitudes and philosophy must be consistent with the programs offered by the Warner School and its stated mission.
Additional criteria may be established for individual programs.
Official transcripts of all previous post-secondary education are required if admitted to the program

A statement of purpose
Current résumé
A writing sample
TOEFL or IELTS scores are required for international applicants who are non-native English speakers
