The Applied GIS programme is designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental concepts, tools, and techniques used in GIS with a focus on their application in real world contexts.
GIS skills are applicable across a wide range of industries including urban planning, environmental management, natural resource exploration, transportation, public health, disaster management, marketing, and many others. By studying GIS, you will gain a skill set that can be valuable in a wide range of career paths.
Throughout the course, you will be introduced to the core principles of GIS and its application in various industries, and gain hands-on experience with popular GIS software, including both ArcGIS and QGIS. You will also develop practical skills in data management, spatial and quantitative analysis, and visualization.
Your career
Graduates go on to work for a diverse range of organisations such as the Ordnance Survey, ESRI, the civil service and local government. We also have many students go on to graduate schemes with engineering and planning firms like Jacobs, Arup and Mott Macdonald.

Entry requirements for 雪菲爾大學
All applications are treated individually. For UK students, the usual entry requirement is a 2:1 degree or evidence of equivalent achievement (for example, a professional qualification combined with work experience). Applications are also welcomed from candidates with a 2:2 degree, although evidence of work experience or other activity is generally expected. For international students, we would expect you to be educated to degree level, or to have evidence of equivalent achievement, including work in professional practice.
The programme is suitable for those from a wide range of backgrounds, including but not restricted to subject areas such as architecture, geography, urban studies, planning, economics, construction, law or other similar subjects, as well as non-cognate disciplines such as history, sciences and politics, for example.
Overall IELTS grade of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component, or equivalent.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) internet-based test (IBT) - Overall score of 88 or above, with at least 17 in Listening, 17 in Writing, 18 in Reading and 20 in Speaking.
