Master of Arts in Criminal Justice

The 24 month program provides opportunities for graduate training in theory, methods and research, as well as options to learn in research field placements related to potential future domains of employment such as policing, corrections, social services and policy development. The program may be completed part time or full time and students may pursue a course and project-based or course and thesis-based program of study. Because of its flexibility and options for practical and applied studies, the Master of Arts in Criminal Justice will appeal to both inservice professionals as well as traditional students pursuing advanced studies in the social sciences.Our program is focused on criminal justice from an interdisciplinary perspective, including differing theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of crime, the criminal justice system and approaches to critiquing or ameliorating the system. Other social science or legal programs may offer one or two courses in criminology or crime and focusing on offenders or victims, but we are the only program in the prairie provinces with faculty and courses totally dedicated to the area of criminal justice.

Because of its flexibility and options for practical and applied studies, the MA in Criminal Justice will appeal to both in-service professionals as well as traditional students pursuing advanced studies in the social sciences. Students in the program gain an in-depth understanding of the criminal justice system, as well as advanced skills in research methodology, study design and application, and policy development. Students can pursue either a course and project-based program of study, or a course and thesis-based program of study. This program may be completed on a part-time or full-time basis. The expected time to graduate is 24 months (full-time) or 48 months (part-time), maximum is 6 years.
