關於課程
Students work with a large, interdisciplinary faculty that includes about 30 tenure-track professors with PhDs in sociology, anthropology, English, history, and foreign languages. Students can also study with professors and instructors from other departments on campus who are affiliated with our department. Virginia Tech’s MS program in Sociology provides students with comprehensive training in research design, quantitative and qualitative methods, sociological theory, and a wide range of substantive areas. The common thread that connects much of the research we do in VT Sociology is a focus on the causes, consequences, and interactions of social inequalities within a variety of focal areas including gender, race, class, sexuality, criminology, health, aging, the environment, education, popular culture, and the global political economy. Our department is also home to interdisciplinary programs in Women’s and Gender Studies, Africana Studies, and American Indian Studies, and our MS students have the opportunity to receive training in these interdisciplinary fields during the course of their studies.

Entry requirements for 維吉尼亞理工學院暨州立大學
To be considered for master's program, applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with minimum of 3.0 GPA.
Official Transcripts
Include a scanned copy of your transcripts with your online application, then arrange for an official copy to be sent to graduate admissions after you receive an offer of admission.
Department Graduate Testing Requirements
Official GRE is required for Sociology (M.S.). Please have the testing agency send official scores to Virginia Tech Graduate School, code 5859.
Letters of Recommendation
Three letters of recommendation are required for Sociology (M.S.). You can include references/recommendations email addresses in your online application, or have them send paper copies directly to Graduate School.
Writing Sample
Please provide academic writing sample.
Letter of Interest and Curriculum Vitae
A letter of interest (3-5 pages) is required by the Department of Sociology along with your latest Curriculum Vitae.
Applying as an International Student
International students might be required to submit TOEFL scores, immigration documents, and other additional materials with their application.
We require a minimum TOEFL score of 80 (IBT) or IELTS score of 6.5 for admission. Test scores should be sent to us using ETS institution code 5859.
English language requirements
