關於課程
A language dies about every two weeks. Make a positive change by taking on this threat to the world’s linguistic heritage. In our close-knit multicultural and multilingual community, you’ll examine the building blocks of languages, how they develop and change, how people learn them and the way regional accents differ. As you explore other fascinating language-based questions, you’ll find lots of opportunities to apply your knowledge both inside and outside the classroom. In small classes, you’ll have close contact with expert linguists and engage with a community passionate about languages.
Get a solid foundation in linguistics and languages in the ideal setting: a multilingual, multicultural campus located within one of Canada’s most diverse cities. While the program is focused on English, French and Spanish, we take a broad view of language learning across the world.
You’ll be offered courses from a rich menu of linguistics branches, including phonetics (the sound properties of language), morphology (word patterns), semantics (the study of meaning in general), historical linguistics (the evolution of languages over time) and sociolinguistics (the relationships between language and social contexts).
As a Glendon Linguistics & Language student, you’ll benefit from the extensive language resources available outside the classroom. The Glendon Centre for Research on Language Contact provides research assistantships and other opportunities for hands-on experience, and the Linguistics Department frequently hosts talks and conferences featuring well-known scholars in the field.
