Keyano College

There are always exciting developments at Keyano College, including the growth of study programs, new facilities and more.

In early 2023 the college has received over CAD 1 million from the Government of Alberta to invest in 93 new seats to be added to health care training programs. This expansion reflects the popularity of the courses in question and the college overall, with more students able to undertake these excellent programs.

Plans are also in discussion to expand the offering of English language classes for international students arriving in Canada for the first time. Unprecedented demand last year for places on these courses has caused the college to consider expansion, allowing more international students who aren't fluent in English to being their journey at Keyano.

And students are being rewarded for their efforts across the college – in early 2023 at the annual Student Awards Ceremony, 429 awards were granted to students to a sum of CAD 530,000, helping them to continue their academic achievements.

The standard of education at Keyano College is excellent, with students benefitting from a faculty that are highly qualified in their respective fields and that have experience of working in their chosen industry. This allows them to tailor the course content to the real needs of professionals in that career, so students complete their studies fully prepared to enter the workforce.

The faculty are also experienced educators, and so are adept at imparting their knowledge in a way that is inspiring and understandable. This is helped by the smaller class sizes, which means students get more attention from their tutors throughout their time at the college.

Keyano offers modern learning spaces and high-quality resources, so students will have everything they need to succeed in their study program at the highest level. The college has a bold research plan through which it contributes to innovation within the subjects it teaches.

Keyano College offers a wide range of study programs, including certificates, diplomas and full four-year university degrees.

The programs are split between six main schools:

School of Academic Upgrading & Language

This school offers programs designed to help develop students who need extra tuition in English language or in other academic/high school subjects prior to moving onto further education in Alberta.

School of Business

This school offers a wide range of business-related programs, including business management, business aviation, accounting, HR and even esports management.

School of Education

A selection of educational programs are available at this school, designed to train the next generation of teachers at elementary and secondary level.

School of Health & Human Services

Students can choose from a selection of health-based study programs at this school, including nursing, paramedicine, education assistant, health care aid and early learning.

School of Trades & Technology

There are a selection of apprenticeships and study programs at this school, all focused on trades (domestic students only at this time) including electrical, welding, driver training and more.

School of University Studies

This school offers courses in engineering, science, computer systems, environmental studies, general science, general arts, and governance & civil studies.

When applying to study at Keyano College, international students will be required to provide evidence of their high school education (or equivalent), including any certificates earned or any final exam results. If students have earned a diploma or degree, they will be expected to provide a copy of it as part of their application.

Specific programs may have further requirements such as evidence of specific subjects covered, or additional documents. Students should check the requirements for their chosen course on the college's website.

All courses at Keyano are taught in English – therefore, students will need to provide evidence of a passing grade in an English language proficiency test. The required scores vary by study program. English language courses are available for those that don't meet the requirements immediately.

Students may be asked to complete an assessment online to verify that their prior education meets the level required for their chosen program.

International students applying to study at Keyano College will need to make sure that their tuition fees are paid. Fees must be paid 10 business days before the start of each academic semester. The fees vary by course and are set each year, so may rise for students on multi-year study programs.

Fees include tuition costs but also other additional fees, including health and dental cover, campus rec, and tech. Students will also have to pay extra fees if they choose to stay in the residential halls of the college.

To help with the financial costs of college study, there are a number of scholarships and bursaries that students are able to apply for. Some of these recognise excellent academic achievement, while others are awarded for those with particular talents or from a hardship background.

Some scholarships are provided by external bodies – funded by friends of the college. These may be for specific courses.

The facilities are Keyano College are excellent – students will be able to thrive both in their academic studies and in their downtime when socialising with new friends they meet on campus. Classrooms are modern and equipped with all essential IT hardware and software, while courses with a practical element make use of professional-grade resources.

The college has a bookstore on campus, along with a library stocked with thousands of books as well as offering study spaces for individuals and groups.

It has its own theatre, esports arena and arts centre too, which hosts various events throughout the year that students are encouraged to attend. There are also excellent sports facilities, where students can enjoy casual fitness activities or try out for one of the Huskies teams.

The college has residential halls both on campus and within downtown Fort McMurray. Students should apply directly and ensure they have accommodation secured before arriving in the country.
