Loyalist College in Toronto (Toronto Business College)

Loyalist College has a wide network of sponsors and partnerships and is highly successful in raising funds to enhance their facilities and campus infrastructure.

Within the last four months, Loyalist College has celebrated the opening of two new state-of-the-art learning centres, which will ensure that students are using the most industry appropriate facilities and equipment while they complete their college education.

Unwind

In December 2022, Loyalist College cut the ribbon on Unwind, a new purpose-designed spa facility at the Belleville campus. The new spa represents part of the initial phase in a large-scale renovation scheme for the college's infrastructure, and will be an industry-relevant teaching centre offering first-rate student-oriented esthetic services to real clients.

Unwind is operated by students, teaching and support staff from the college's Esthetics & Spa Management program and will feature a comprehensive range of services including facials, hair removal, manicures, pedicures, brow and lash tinting, and makeup artistry.

Loyalist College Culinary Lab

In March 2023, students and staff gathered at the Belleville campus to officially open the newly renovated culinary lab. This cutting-edge facility provides top-rate culinary management training to students in a hands-on learning environment, furnished with a range of brand new industry-standard equipment.

As part of the event tour, guests were able to taste a selection of baked goods made on-site by Loyalist College students including pastries, hors d'oeuvres and freshly baked bread.

In addition to being able to use these state-of-the-art facilities daily, students of the culinary lab will benefit from an exciting programme of guest speakers and professional chefs, as well as site visits to local restaurants, farms and wineries.

Loyalist College has well over fifty years of educational heritage and, in this time, has established itself as a centre of teaching excellence with a reputation for providing a highly inclusive and personal learning experience.

The college has an emphasis on practical, skills-based learning, which means that students are actively engaged with a lot of different study methods and teaching environments. Class sizes are kept small, which allows for more one-to-one tutoring from their teachers and mentors, and presents more opportunities for feedback and encouragement, resulting in a highly personalised course delivery.

The college works hard to create opportunities for students from all backgrounds and provides options for internship and work placement programmes, which allow students to subsidise the cost of study while gaining extra experience and professional insight.

There are multiple intake points throughout the year, in September, January and May, as well as transfer agreements with the college's partner universities to increase access to Loyalist College's high-quality curriculum.

Loyalist College is staffed by a highly qualified and experienced teaching faculty, who are enthusiastic about their subject area and passionate about the success of their students. Loyalist College offers a comprehensive range of programmes across a wide range of study levels. There are apprenticeships, advanced diplomas, and university transfer courses available, as well as graduate certificates and continued professional development courses for those who already hold a degree or are working professionally.

Courses span many subject areas, including biosciences, health, business and media, and provide superb preparation for students to enter the workforce or further education as well-trained and community-driven individuals.

The college aims to be as inclusive and accessible as possible, and many of its courses are available to study in both full-time and part-time attendance modes, allowing students the possibility to organise their studies around existing work or personal commitments. Each year, the college welcomes around 3,000 full-time students and 12,000 part-time students.

There is also a strong selection of distance learning courses which are delivered entirely online, representing an extremely flexible way to study. These courses can be studied from anywhere in the world and increase the global impact of the Loyalist College curriculum and education network.

Loyalist College offers several programme types, which each represents a different level of study and are subject to various sets of credentials and modes of course delivery. These include:

• Full-time in-class Ontario College diploma and certificate programs
• Distance Studies and Continuing Education
• Career and College Prep
• Non-funded programs
• Dual Credits

The application process and entry requirements associated with each of these course types is different, and full details for each programme can be found on the Loyalist College website.

Additionally, there will be a particular academic entry requirement for every subject-specific course within each of these categories, and prospective students are encouraged to visit the course page for their chosen qualification to familiarise themselves with the particular entry requirements as well as any key dates and deadlines for application.

Applicants can apply online, though the Ontario Colleges platform. They may select up to three programme choices, but can accept only one offer of admission. Students who are attending secondary school at the time of application must complete the online form and have their school office send any grades which are available.

If mid-term grades have not yet been confirmed, then the applicant must enter their enrolled courses, and forward their final grades at a later date.

Students who will be 19 years of age on the day one of their first semester are considered to be mature applicants and must complete the required subjects to gain admission onto their chosen course. Alternatively, if they do not have the necessary subjects then they may be required to write a diagnostic test.

International students are not subject to the mature student clause, however there is an English language proficiency requirement which must be fulfilled.

Loyalist College may be a small institution, but it provides a huge range of opportunity to its students, who benefit from access to a superb variety of facilities and specialist equipment. This ensure that students receive a high-quality hands-on education where they'll be using industry-standard equipment on a daily basis, giving them fantastic preparation for entering employment after graduation.

The college's Belleville campus is a hub of activity and has been designed to provide everything which students need for academic success and personal enrichment, all located within convenient walking distance.

In addition to academic facilities, the college provides a skills centre, dining hall, fitness centre, bookstore, student centre, print shop, conference facilities and a variety of student spaces for both study and recreation.

The main library is a state-of-the-art facility containing hundreds of thousands of books and printed publications, journals, online encyclopaedias, databases and digital audio-visual resources. Students can access the library collection either on-campus, or remotely ensuring ready access to a world of information.

Loyalist College continues to invest intelligently in its infrastructure and student facilities, and is currently engaged in a campus-wide renovation project, which includes the opening of three brand-new facilities a cutting-edge culinary lab, makerspace, and health and wellness building.

Loyalist College is a well-resourced institution, with a large network of partner organisations and professional sponsors, as well as a global community of alumni who continue to show their support. The college recognises the need to provide a diverse range of financial support for its students, and co-ordinates a broad programme of funding opportunities.

Each year, Loyalist College provides more than a million dollars in funding through awards, bursaries, and scholarship schemes to ensure that there are fewer barriers to entry for aspiring applicants, and greater financial security for current students.

The Financial Aid Office is staffed by a welcoming team of advisors, who help students to find funding opportunities and put together the appropriate applications. They'll even teach students useful budgeting and management skills, to ensure that the money lasts for the duration of the school year.

In addition to demonstrating financial need, students must be residents of Ontario and be registered in a full-time post-secondary program with a minimum 60 percent course load to be eligible for Loyalist bursaries. Students seeking disability support must be registered with AccessAbility Services at Loyalist and must have a minimum 40 percent course load.

Loyalist College awards 50 Entrance Bursaries each year to students starting their course in May 2023. The award is valued at USD 500 and allocated based on financial need. Applications are open until April 28^th, 2023.
