New Brunswick is a fantastic place to study. It is friendly and welcoming, and has easy access to some of the major urban cities of the country. It's also a place with beautiful natural scenery – students will love exploring the oceans, trails and lakes nearby during their downtime.

The study programs available are diverse, but each one is led by driven faculty who are determined to help students become the best versions of themselves. There is a suitable balance between theory and practical, hands-on learning too.

This is supported by the excellent partnerships that the college has with local businesses. New Brunswick Community College is always developing – growing in recognition, improving the quality of each course, and broadening the scope of the programs that students can choose from.

The college has an excellent reputation for learning and research thanks to its partnerships with local businesses, and this was recognised as the institution was named on Research Infosource Inc's list of the Top 50 Research College in Canada for 2022, the first time that the college has made the list.

New for 2023, the college has installed a new quality assurance framework to ensure that each program continues to reach the high standards expected. New programs are being added too, including a new carpentry co-op for 2023/24 that includes a paid 22-week work placement.

And it was announced in late 2022 that the Saint John campus has been assigned CAD 45.9 million for improvements to campus buildings, upgrading them and making them more energy efficient at the same time.

Teaching quality

Teaching quality

Students who attend New Brunswick Community College benefit from an excellent balance between theoretical and practical learning, all relevant to their field. Programs are led by faculty who are passionate about their subject and experienced in delivering their expertise to the students in their charge.

To help guarantee high standards of education, NBCC has installed an education quality assurance framework to constantly evaluate the programs it offers. Every program is reviewed annually and then given an in-depth review every five years, using evidence-based data and the latest developments to ensure courses are relevant, up to date and giving students the maximum value.

The college uses an experiential learning framework to ensure that students are given a broad education and best prepared to enter the workforce upon graduation. This includes a wealth of opportunities, from field placements and internships to virtual site visits, volunteering, guest speakers and service learning - where students learn by working on real projects for partner businesses.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

Because NBCC offers such a diverse range of study programs, there is no single set of entry requirements that apply across the whole college. Different courses have different academic requirements.

However, the college has created an efficient system to make it much easier for students to understand the requirements – there are 7 standard profiles which describe different categories of study background, and each program is assigned one of those profiles as its entry requirements. Most profiles require successful completion of a Secondary (High) School diploma or equivalent and a senior language qualification, but as an example:

  • Profile A requires Grade 11 mathematics (or higher level)
  • Profile K requires Grade 11 mathematics and Grade 11/12 Biology and Chemistry

International students must also demonstrate their capability to understand the English language, as all courses are taught in this way. An IELTS score of 6.0 (with no subject less than 5.5) is required, or equivalent from other recognized tests for most programs. English proficiency requirements are little higher for pharmacy technician and pharmacy assistant programs.

The college has a student union where there are student representatives for the student voice, which acts independently of the college. The SU also runs a number of extra-curricular events around each campus.

The college does not offer any housing, but it does have a database of housing options from local landlords that students can use to find somewhere to stay for the duration of their learning program.
