Diploma programs

Diploma programs

A UNSW Diploma in architecture, business, computer science, engineering, media or science provides students with a direct pathway to the second year of their chosen degree.

The programs are designed to provide international students with an alternative path for direct entry into a UNSW degree. Successful completion of the 12-month program will allow students to progress into the second year of a bachelor's degree in architecture, business (commerce or economics), computer science, engineering, media or science at UNSW Sydney.

UNSW Diploma students will:

  • Graduate from their degree within the same time period as UNSW students
  • Enjoy personalised attention with small tutorial classes and benefit from additional tutoring and consultation free of cost
  • Access to the same UNSW Sydney facilities and resources as UNSW Sydney students

Note: Diploma in Business students must achieve an average of 60 percent across all diploma academic courses a Satisfactory Grade (equivalent to IELTS 7.0) for the Communication and Academic Literacy course to be guaranteed entry into second year at UNSW. Students studying a Diploma in architecture, computer science, engineering, media or science must achieve a pass across all diploma academic courses and a satisfactory grade (equivalent to IELTS 6.5) for the Communication and Academic Literacy course to be guaranteed entry into second year at UNSW.

Other study options

Other study options

Foundation Studies

UNSW Foundation Studies was Australia's first university preparatory year program and helps provide students with pathways to all bachelor's degrees at UNSW.

The duration of the program ranges from 4 to 15 months based on a student's English language skills and academic background. Through foundation studies programs, students will enjoy a smooth transition into UNSW Sydney and be prepared to meet all required academic demands for their chosen degree.

Foundation studies programs are taught to international students by experienced teachers in a diverse, engaging and supportive study environment. Students will also be supported throughout their study at UNSW College through learning support resources, extra consultations, a study club and more.

UNSW College has over 40,000 alumni students who have successfully completed one of its pathway programs and are enjoying success at university and in their dream careers.

Pre-Masters programs

A UNSW Pre-Masters program is designed to provide additional academic or English language support for students aiming to advance to a postgraduate degree at UNSW Sydney, without compromising on time. Currently, UNSW offers two popular specialisations for Pre-Masters – engineering, and information technology.

Developed in collaboration with UNSW Sydney, this 15-week program helps students enhance their critical thinking, academic writing, project management, research, and communication skills to ensure success in their future endeavours.

At UNSW College, students will receive:

  • An immersive, high-quality teaching and learning environment
  • Guaranteed entry to master's coursework studies, upon successful completion
  • Up to 12 units of credit (one or two courses) towards your master's program at UNSW Sydney

Upon successful completion of the Pre-Masters program and meeting the entry requirements, students will be guaranteed entry into your chosen master's degree at UNSW.

English language courses

English language courses

UNSW College's English pathway courses are developed to help international students improve their English language skills and meet UNSW English language entry requirements. They also help students prepare for success at university and in their career.

These courses are delivered by the first university languages centre of Australia. More than 4,000 students progress through these English language courses every year.

Classes are delivered for students at the UNSW campuses providing them access to the university's social surroundings and facilities.

International students who haven't met the English language entry requirements can choose from a variety of study options including the Essential Academic English (EAE), Foundation English Entry Courses (FEEC), and University English Entry Courses (UEEC).

Admissions

Admissions

How to Apply

Applicants to a course or program at UNSW Sydney will need to complete the following steps to gain admission into the university.

Step 1

Students can apply online and will need to provide their latest academic results (such as their high school reports, academic qualifications), evidence of English language proficiency (such as IELTS or TOEFL results), if available, and a copy of their passport.

Step 2

Once the application is received, it will be assessed. Eligible students will receive a letter of offer. They must then accept the offer and pay the required deposit and fees to gain admission.

Step 3

Students will receive an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from the UNSW Sydney admissions team.

Step 4

Students will be provided with information about their enrolment and orientation prior to starting their program of study.

With year-round great weather, more than 100 beaches, tourist attractions like the Sydney Opera House and a stunning harbour, it's easy to understand why people love the city of Sydney.

This global city is also an economic and financial powerhouse. It offers students numerous career and business opportunities, with it being home to more global firms than any city in Australia. It offers valuable networking opportunities and helps students stand out in the international job market.

Sydney is a multicultural home for many international students from across the world, with more than 250 languages spoken.

There's always something for international students to do in Sydney and UNSW is in the heart of it all ideally situated close to the beaches and the CBD and easily accessible by public transport.

Student life

Classes are held at UNSW Kensington campus. Students are just 20 minutes from the centre of Sydney by tram, or a short bus ride from famous beaches, shopping centres, parks, and much more.

On campus students will enjoy access to accommodation, restaurants, cafes, banks, a supermarket and more. Facilities include the UNSW fitness and aquatic centre, libraries, the student support centre, tennis courts and sporting fields. Students can also make local and international friends by joining Arc, UNSW's student association where they will have access to over 300 student clubs and societies.

Students will also be able to reach out to UNSW College student services team at any point during their studies should they need any assistance in relation to academic or welfare issues, as well as make use of a broad range of physical and mental health services.
